The author decided to use a Toshiba camera and iPhone 6+ for their video project to take advantage of the different features of each camera. The Toshiba camera produced high quality HD images suitable for stationary shots but was heavier, while the iPhone 6+ was lighter, thinner, and better for panning shots due to its ability to keep images in focus. Through testing both cameras, the author was able to use each camera's strengths to benefit the quality and professionalism of the video.
1. Comparison of Toshiba camera to I phone 6 +
I decided to use two cameras in my video as the offered different
featuresthat I could useto improvethe quality and the professional
natureof the video. The video needed to show high quality images all
the way though but also capturestable images as the camera would
be held most of the time in order to record movingpeopleand
objects. At the beginningof the projectI researched camera’s that I
could use and talked to the staff mediatechnician about college
cameras and differenttypesand what features can create what
effects, I decided not to use the college cameras as I felt that I had
equal quality of camera at home for the music video as well as photo-
shoot, this also meantthat I wasable to go to differentlocations
freely and of my own choosing without having to bring the
equipmentback dueto lend deadlines, this had big positivesas it
gave me the time to really focuson the differentshots and location
times and saved time in the sign in and out processthat would have
madeit moredifficultI felt to complete the filmingon all of my
chosen locations. I have donemany test shoots with the cameras
some includethe lighting effect demonstrationsin variouslocations
to show the differentlighting styles that I would be usingor thinking
about in the video. I have used the Toshiba camera a lot for filming
and it workswellin very well lit places and has high quality hd
recordingwhich is usefulto match other cameras that I might use as I
wantto avoid a change in resolution or quality in the musicvideo as
it will look unprofessional. The iPhone 6 plusis something that is
brand new and something I have not had for a while so I did not have
that amountof time to play with its features although I have had a
look onlineat someof the capabilities it has that I could have used in
the production of the music video. This device has quite a lot to offer
and as I was in the early planningstages I waskeen to try out someof
the featuresto see if I could adapt them or enlarge them for the real
production video. Ireally feel that I have been able to use the
cameras in the best possible way because the Toshiba camera is
better for still standingshots but is heavier and thicker than the
iPhone 6+ which is lighter thinner and does notgo outof focusvery
easily which allowsfor fast pan and tilt movements.
Below I have included a image of both cameras to show the
similarities in quality and resolution and how that benefited the
video.
