What is CEED … ???!!!
CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design)
is an all India examination conducted by the Indian
i ll I di i ti d t d b th I di
Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT, Bombay), on
behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources
Development, Department of Education,
Government of India.

The examination tests the candidates for visual
perception ability, drawing skills, design aptitude
and communication skills.
What after CEED?
CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to
Post Graduate M.Des. programmes at the Industrial
Design Centre, IIT Bombay; IDDC, IIT Delhi; CPMD,
IISc Bangalore; design Programme, IIT Kanpur.

CEED qualification in itself does not guarantee admission to
the above mentioned programmes. In addition to CEED,
candidates also have to fulfil other requirements such as tests

Eligibility for CEED 2012:
Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to
complete any of the following, by July 2012:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/
Interior Design or equivalent
• Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of
4 years duration after 10+2)

• B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
• G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year
professional experience
• Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer applications

Industrial Design (ID)
The Industrial design programme concentrates
on developing skills, knowledge and attitude

among students to become creative problem
solvers who can effectively and strategically use
different design processes and methods. The
students learn to correlate technical and
ergonomic functions of a product with the real
human needs. They develop their innovative
and aesthetic sensibilities into making a
coherent and appropriate product.
Why Industrial Design?
Industrial design is the primary stream of design.
As designing a product or designing an experience
requires knowledge of visual communication,
product interaction design and also technical

Mobility and Vehicle Design
The programme envisages developing graduates
with skill and knowledge, which will make them

competent designers for the auto industry.
Studies include the understanding and
identification of the transportation and mobility
issue facing the country along with

developments in other countries and finding
creative solutions. The course covers a broad
spectrum from personal to mass transportation.
Why Vehicle Design ?
It’s a fast emerging field in India. International
auto majors are setting up design studios in India
to meet this challenge of changing life style,
environmental issue and increasing population
density and highly competitive environment.

Visual Communication (VC)
The course is at an advance level to create visual
communication designer with greater analytical

and problem solving capabilities. The students
are given opportunities to learn new skills and to
advance their level of understanding. They can
also specialize in one of the many areas of visual

communication like typography, information
visualization, interaction design, video/film
making, exhibition design, animation,
photography, etc.

with better maturity in handling communication
design problems, a deeper understanding of
aesthetic aspects, and generating methods and

Interaction Design (IxD)
Interaction designers are people with good
analytical abilities, skilled with specific

techniques, creative in their solutions, sensitive
in their approach and knowledgeable about
current developments in using new emerging
technologies and explores new medias.

The program focuses on interactive medias,
mobile communication applications, interfaces
for software applications, interactive gaming and
learning applications.
Why IxD?
Nowadays we are surrounded by interactive
medias. We have started interacting with
machines for example – ATM, Mobile phones,
Touch screen gadgets, etc. Even a car computer
can understand your voice command and turn on

the music which you demand. IxD people are
working constantly behind it all to improve this
human machine interaction.

Animation
This is a post graduation course for gaining
holistic approach to animation education. In this

course student will have access to cutting edge
IT capabilities and the proximity to other
engineering disciplines which would facilitate
cross disciplinary and collaborative projects, also

new areas for animation applications can be
explored and experimented with.

Why Animation?

Some more points to note about M.Des:
• M.Des course is a 2 years full time post‐graduation course

• During this period you may avail around Rs. 8000/‐ per
month as Teacher’s assistantship from IIT. This figure and
scenario may vary from institute to institute.

• The branches like Architecture, mechanical engineering,
civil engineering, etc. are all eligible for CEED because the
M.Des course is designed to build on those foundations.
M.Des course is designed for new learning as well as de‐
learning of old inhibitions and rigid mind sets.

expert in one particular domain of design. Also,
