昨今、IoT が流行っている割には、通信プロトコルが公開されておらず、Webエンジニアが IoT に関わることは容易ではない。本セッションでは、昨年に引き続き、Webエンジニアでも入手可能な製品で、かつ、プロトコルが公開されたデバイスを厳選し、スマートホームハックに必要なさまざまな家庭内無線方式の概要、各種デバイス操作のためのプロトコルの概要を紹介する。そして、各種 BLE センサーデバイスの情報取得、ネットワークカメラの遠隔操作、自動車の診断情報など、Node.js やブラウザーを使って、どうやってスマートホームをハックできるのかを解説する。

近年、ブラウザーやブラウザーランタイムは、PCやスマートフォンのみならず、テレビ、コンソールゲーム機などの組み込み機器にも導入されるようになりました。また、Raspberry Piに代表されるSingle Board Computer（SBC）も流行りだし、ロースペックな環境で動作しなければならないウェブアプリケーション開発の需要が高まろうとしています。多くの組み込み機器に搭載されたは、近年よく使われるAPIやCSSをサポートしています。しかし、そのパフォーマンスはスマートフォンと較べて非常に貧弱です。スマートフォンでは当たり前のパフォーマンスが得られることはありません。本セッションでは、組み込み向け機器の現状を紹介し、その上で動作するウェブアプリケーションの開発の課題、私の経験での苦労話、そして、それに立ち向かうための Tips を紹介します。

Canvas、WebGL、WebRTC、WebSocketなど、HTML5の花形スターとも言えるモテ系APIは、常に世間の注目を集めている。これらAPIを使いこなせるウェブディベロッパーはどこからも引っ張りだこだろう。しかし、注目度が低いながらも、今後のウェブを支える（かもしれない）最新のAPIが数多く存在する。このようなAPIは派手さが足りないゆえに話題になることもない。しかし、これら非モテ系のAPIも含めてHTML5だ。本セッションでは、ありきたりのモテ系APIに飽きたマニアな貴方のために、普段は陽の当たらないAPIを一挙紹介する。もちろん、どれかのブラウザーに実装されているAPIのみだ。今から使おうと思えば使えないことはない。そして、W3Cにて仕様策定が始まって日が浅いため、明日にはどうなるか分からない。無くなるかもしれないし、大幅に変更されてしまうかもしれない。今覚えても役に立たないかもしれないし、役に立つかもしれない。そんなスリリングなAPIを知ってこそマニアなのだ。ようこそ、HTML5裏APIの世界へ。

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) is the most popular style of large language model application to emerge from 2023. The most basic style of RAG works by vectorizing your data and injecting it into a vector database like Milvus for retrieval to augment the text output generated by an LLM. This is just the beginning. One of the ways that we can extend RAG, and extend AI, is through multilingual use cases. Typical RAG is done in English using embedding models that are trained in English. In this talk, we’ll explore how RAG could work in languages other than English. We’ll explore French, Chinese, and Polish.
