This document proposes the International Library Coalition for Open Access Books (ILCOAb) as a business model to fund open access for scholarly books in a sustainable way. The model would see library consortia aggregate funds to pay publishers' first copy costs for titles, which would then be published open access. Publishers would still be able to sell printed and digital copies. The benefits would include full open access for scholars, a service for publishers, and efficient content acquisition for libraries seeking to support global scholarly communication. The model aims to make better use of existing library budgets to solve the challenge of funding open access for long-form publications.
