- At Level 1 Basic Packaging – Packaging software is an independent task performed for some applications. Companies at this level may experience application sprawl, ad hoc provisioning and procurement, non-compliance, poor service levels, increased maintenance and support costs, as well as high audit risk.
- At Level 2 Standard Process – Standardization of the packaging process produces more consistent application deployments. At this level organizations usually have an application repository, known but disjointed processes, and software inventory reports, but service transitions can be unpredictable and disruptive, and true ups are required to maintain compliance.
- At Level 3 Efficient Delivery – Automation streamlines disjointed packaging processes and compatibility testing to accelerate planning, packaging, and testing of physical, virtual, and mobile applications. The benefits at this level include a centralized application library, policies and governance, compliance maintained across the portfolio, accelerated application delivery service levels, more accurate planning, and foreseeable licensing costs.
- At level 4 Change Ready - Automation of the application lifecycle links and automates the packaging processes and other business related processes for complete end to end management of applications. An organization at the top level of maturity can make proactive application recommendations, provide self-service for enterprise applications and licenses, predict service delivery times, enable mobility, and savings with demand planning and reuse of application licenses.
- In ITIL terms the central repository for approved and authorized applications is called the Definitive Media Library
- At Level 1 Basic Packaging – Customers are utilizing AdminStudio Standard Edition to repackage applications individually and manually hand off to the administrator of the configuration manager system. At Level 2 Standard Process – Mostly AdminStudio and the Virtualization pack to package applications and convert legacy applications to virtual formats. At Level 3 Efficient Delivery – At this level customers are using AdminStudio Suite and Workflow Manager to automate the process. The application Compatibility Pack is required to begin doing comprehensive assessments. At level 4 Change Ready – To move the highest level of maturity, customers are automating the end to end process with Workflow Manager and utilizing the Mobile Pack to add mobile applications to their central application inventory and perform compatibility testing and assessment prior to automating the delivery of application packages to the configuration management system and the enterprise app store App Portal.
