  1. 1. Peter Lindbergh: A Different Vision on Fashion Photography
  2. 2. Make sure to save it before we begin
  3. 3. Peter Lindbergh is a globally recognized fashion photographer that launched the era of top model and his works have been featured on American Vogue. The exhibition “A Different Vision on Fashion Photography” curated by Thierry-Maxime Loriot, featured Lindbergh’s career as a photographer: 220 iconic photos, personal notes, storyboards, polaroid prints and short films.
  4. 4. Peter was quite popular for his works in Vogue but perhaps, what many did not know was that he had refused several offers from Alexander Liberman. According to the photographer, the industry had stereotyped women. As at the time, the Industry portrayed women as nothing more than walking their dogs down 5th avenue.
  5. 5. In his words, when Anna Wintour became the new editor-in-chief of Vogue and asked me to create the first covers, I spied an opening. I felt that it was important for fashion photography to change its style. It was time to question that stereotype and move towards a kind of beauty more linked to the personality of the woman rather than the status symbol.
  6. 6. This was when the iconic covers of the 1990s were created. This period, we saw young models step up to the stage without makeup and simple clothing's.
  7. 7. Peter photographed models like Naomi, Linda, Cindy, Christy, and Tatjana. Peter came from Duisberg, in Germany where he grew up with his father and brother. He lost his mother at a tender age
  8. 8. Eventually, he went to Switzerland where he worked briefly as a window dresser. Soon he moved to Berlin where he worked as a factory worker at night. He began taking courses and soon realized he wanted to become an artist.
  9. 9. According to the photographer, the educational standards were antiquated and the pictorial and photographic techniques were taught in a standard, old way. In his exhibition, “A Different Vision On Fashion Photography” peter said allowed him to gather together a corpus of works revolving around one theme: fashion
  10. 10. And while, Peter doesn't label himself as a fashion photographer, he seems to be boxed to such names as they would be limiting. His immense talent has bee seen across different mediums other than photos.
