- The document analyzes the effectiveness of environmental enrichment techniques in promoting the well-being of captive primates held in Brazilian zoos from 1980 to 2018.
- It analyzed 99 scientific texts, finding that capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys and brown howler monkeys were the most frequent subjects.
- The analysis categorized the techniques into 14 categories, with feeding and foraging being the most common, showing the continued need to consider natural history and not just present continuous enrichment programs.

191. Introduction: Abandoned Animals represent a serious public health problem for most cities in the world. The
high rate of procreation, zoonoses and accidents caused by these animals relate the urgency to spread
concepts such as responsible pet ownership, and the need for effective measures to control the population
of the same. Another result of the constant increase of abandoned animals is the development of a behavior
denominated Animal Handling that can be considered pathological, which tends to cause serious harm to
the individuals involved. Objective: To assess the aspects of animal welfare in the context of abandoned
dogs and animal handling. Methods: This study developed in three stages, namely: the categorization of
news broadcasted on the internet, where news concerning where the first fifty news regarding the proposed
themes (dogs in urban centers and accumulators animals) were analyzed were analyzed, which were
considered which used as evaluation instruments welfare, psychological analysis and health assessment. As
a second method the ethical perceptions of college students regarding the two issues by using an online
questionnaire was assessed. As a complement to the research method, the tracking of wandering, gifts dogs
was conducted at Campus Curitiba, where the animals were properly identified and analyzed according to
ethological behaviors. Results: On the analysis of news reports on the internet, we could observed that
generally abandoned and semi-domiciled animals pose a high rate of disorders in an urban area, usually to
be associated with some kind of aggression or abuse. The presence of animals handling, as well as damage
to the welfare of animals and people involved, are also increasing problems due to the increasing population
of abandoned dogs, which are currently without effective solutions. Regarding the perception of students in
relation to the proposed themes, we can observed that in general individuals recognize problems related to
errant animals, but also becomes a need for greater dissemination of the concept of responsible ownership
and awareness. Regarding the presence of animals on campus, we can observe the presence of potentially
stressful behaviors, which indicate the demand for greater attention allocated to these animals. Conclusion:
There is need for effective actions towards errant animals, focusing on education and awareness, aiming
thereby also reduce the impacts of accumulators in relation to animals as well as increase the quality of life
for both involved in this situation. ,/1@
