Security:
Check the store for signs of forced entry. Also
check all lighting, surveillance cameras, alarm
systems and panic buttons.
Strategy:
Create your action plan for the day — your task
timeline, daily store goals, etc.
Inventory:
Make sure shelves are stocked; count
inventory and order as needed, verify
incoming shipping.
Store equipment:
Make sure POS systems, cash registers,
printers, phones, TVs and music systems
are functioning properly.
Communications:
Check work email/websites for customer
and corporate updates.
Cash management:
Verify previous night’s deposits, set up
registers (count money out of sight).
Marketing:
Set up displays or boards with daily sale
or upsell items.
Employee management:
Plan daily breaks, set up sales or contest
boards.
Customer prep:
Walk the floor, inspect for cleanliness
and stock quality/appearance, set heat/air
conditioning to daytime setting.
Open:
Unlock the doors, turn on your “open” sign
and welcome customers.

2. Close the store:
Ensure that all customers have left the store,
lock the doors, turn off the “open” sign.
Cleaning:
Assign cleaning duties, including trash
collection.
Store equipment:
Shut down POS systems, cash registers,
printers, phones, TVs, music systems,
etc.; charge company phones, set heat/air
conditioning to nighttime setting.
Inventory:
Restock merchandise and count inventory.
Cash management:
Count cash (out of sight of those outside),
place deposits in safe.
Sales reports:
Run sales reports, settle all credit card
machines, verify credit card slips have been
signed, etc.
Employee management:
Verify time cards/hours worked.
Strategy:
Compare the day’s performance with goals.
Security:
Turn on security lights and cameras (rotate
surveillance tape as needed), observe
employees to ensure merchandise is not
taken, set alarm upon exiting (leave through
front doors, in pairs/groups when possible).
