The Support Policies and Technological Details you need to make informed decisions
As you are probably aware, it has been challenging to understand and navigate On-Premise Oracle Support Policies and Third-Party Compatibility (Excel, Windows, SQL, IE, etc.). Fortunately, we are here to help as it impacts all of us in the Oracle-Hyperion world in terms of planning for future projects, and deciding when (or if) to upgrade. At Finit, we have worked through various scenarios for our clients after distilling all this information from Oracle. We have condensed this down into a 30-45 minute presentation which will review how the Oracle EPM Roadmap affects you along with the various options available.
Topics:
The 'State of EPM' and a review of Oracle EPM versioning and support dates.
End of Premier Support for 11.1.2.3, March 2018, what does this mean?
What are your options? What are your peers planning moving forward? What should your organization be thinking through?
Who Should Attend:
We will cover a range of topics geared toward the state of EPM, Premier Support and options moving forward. Attendees should include:
Finance/Accounting Leaders within your organization looking to enhance knowledge within their EPM systems and the current EPM roadmap.
System Administrators and technical support personnel eager to understand the Oracle Roadmap and how it affects them.

10. Finit Safe Harbor
The following is intended to outline Finit’s
understanding of its Software Partners
Support and Direction as of January, 2018.
This information may change. It is for
information purposes only and in no way is a
direct communication from Oracle. All
discussion points should be confirmed
directly with the Software provider before
any decisions are made.
13. Oracle EPM Cloud Current State
• It is a Software As A Service (SaaS) model licensed via subscription for traditional
applications like Financial Consolidation, Financial Planning, etc:
• Organizations pay per application per user.
• Each subscription is a separate URL / published application.
• It is Platform as a Service (PaaS) model with Essbase through Oracle Analytics Cloud
• It is a public cloud model:
• Organizations share the same hardware and resources with others
• Oracle offers a hosted option (Oracle Managed Cloud) which runs on-prem software hosted by Oracle.
• The public cloud model was designed for cost savings:
• The SaaS model is designed to reduce the need for infrastructure and managed services.
• Organizations have very limited / no ability to modify infrastructure for performance (i.e. add CPU’s, tune
servers, etc.).
• The Fortune 500 has adopted Oracle EPM Cloud Partially
• Fortune 500 clients have adopted Oracle EPM cloud for specific functions
• We are not aware of a Fortune 500 client that has moved all EPM and reporting functions (external,
management, FP&A) to Oracle EPM Cloud.

17. EPM On-Prem / Cloud Roadmap Details
Is Hyperion Dead?
18. Oracle On-Prem Product Roadmap
• HFM / FCCS
• 11.1.2.4 introduced significant performance improvement on consolidations (50%
decrease in consolidation times on average)
• Version 11.2 is expected in Q1 / Q2 of 2019
• Each PSU and major release will likely have minor functionality (1 – 3 minor
functionality features each)
• HFM likely may only lightly change over the next 13 years until 2030
• FCCS to receive ‘full parity’ for large customers in Q1 2018
• HFM to FCCS conversion utility to streamline process is on roadmap, but can be
migrated manually today
• FDMEE
• FDMEE has reached ‘full parity’ with FDM in Finit’s viewpoint with 11.1.2.4.
• 11.2 expected to be a minor update
19. HFM vs FCCS
• Relational database
• On premise Application
• Pre-built and customer
defined dimensions
• Calculations use
VBScript and are all
custom development
• No size restrictions
• Unlimited Environments
• Close/Supplemental
data collection requires
separate licensing
HFM
• Essbase + relational (PBCS platform)
• Software as a service
• Pre-built and customer defined dimensions
(including ones commonly built)
• Pre-built logic (Consolidation, CTA,
Rollforwards, Translation, Overrides, etc.) but
can create custom calculations as well
• Some size restrictions
• Two environments, single app per environment
• Close/Supplemental data collection included in
product
FCCS
20. Release Guidance
• Planning / PBCS / EPBCS
• Major development still is primarily being done in PBCS / EPBCS
• Strategic Finance functionality recently added to EPBCS
• Release 11.2 is expected to move some current Cloud only features to on-prem
• Similar to HFM, minor updates are expected for on-prem Planning going forward (1 – 3
features per PSU).
• Open question remains on timing of Oracle moving PBCS / EPBCS features to On-prem
Planning.
• Essbase
• Essbase included in Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) released in 2017
• Can purchase per OCPU Hour - Standard, Data Lake, or Enterprise. Also Non-Metered
per OCPU
• By OCPU hour can add/adjust resources for more CPU –Additional Fees as needed
• TBD on development focus for on-prem now that Cloud is released
21. Release Guidance
• DRM / DRG
• DRM 11.2 will likely have medium level changes. Top candidates for
inclusion:
• Security and Privacy improvements
• Scheduled Data Exchange (Import / Export Profiles)
• Cloud enablement for Hybrid cloud deployments / FCCS integration
• Packaged integrations – DRM with FCCS, ARCS, EPBCS, Financials Cloud
• DRG Enhancements (Visualization, mass approvals, auto-request)
• DRM continues to be ‘version agnostic’ if not using EPMA. As a result, it
can continue to be in a different version.
• DRM Cloud (EDMCS) released 1/25/18. Message is ‘For New Customers’ -
major redesign to DRM.
• Pricing by Records – $1.5k/month per 1k records with 5k min ($90k
annually for 5k records)
23. EPM Support and Version update
• Version 11.1.2.3 Error Correction is through Mar-18
• Current release available is EPM 11.1.2.4
• Oracle has .4 Premier Support through 12/2020
• Extended Support through 12/2021
• Extended support is existing support plus an additional fee
• Oracle is saying Version 11.2 to be released Q1 2019
• Premier Support reported through 12/2030
• PSU approach for all new releases
• Will be based on FMW-Fusion Middle Ware version 12.2
• Oracle has stated development is focused on Cloud
• No guarantee new cloud features will be available on premise
24. Oracle Support Documentation
• Per Oracle Lifetime Support Policy:
• 11.1.2.x on Premier Support through 12/20. But….
support-applications-069216.pdf
25. Oracle Documentation
• Oracle Lifetime Support Policy

• Digging Deeper (Software Error Correction Policy):

• Paying for Premier Support means you implicitly agree to install
all PSUs in a timely manner to get error / bug fixes (in the code
and in 3rd party software compatibility). If you run 11.1.2.2 or an
earlier version and a problem arises today when calling support
the first suggestion will be to upgrade to 11.1.2.4.
27. Oracle On-Prem
Version Release Date Support End Date
11.1.2.3 April 2013 Mar 2018 for Premier Support
11.1.2.4 March 2016 Dec 2020 for Premier / Dec 2021 for Extended
11.2 Q1 2019 2030
• Premier Support = Error Correction + Some New Development +
Oracle Support + 3rd Party Compatibility
• Extended Support = Some Error Correction / Development with
Oracle Support, no 3rd Party Compatibility (Additional Fee)
• Sustaining Support = Oracle Support (No Error Correction,
Development, no 3rd Party Compatibility)
31. On-Prem Options
Option Steps Considerations
Stay on Premier Support (2
Upgrades—11.1.2.3 and prior
versions)
-Upgrade to 11.1.2.4 before
Mar 2018
-Upgrade to 11.2 before Dec
2020
-Most costly due to 2 upgrades
-Allows time for Stability /
Maturity of 11.2 release
Perform 1 Upgrade
-Patch to latest 11.1.2.3 PSU
-Operate on Sustaining support
Apr 18 onward
-Upgrade to 11.2 in 2019 / 2020
-1 major upgrade and less
overall cost
-Uncertainty of 11.2 Release
date and stability
-Potential 3rd party compatibility
‘Squeeze’
Don’t Upgrade / Move to Next
Generation
-Patch to latest 11.1.2.3 PSU
-Operate on Sustaining support
Apr 18 onward
-Move to Cloud or New Vendor
in 18, 19 or 20
-Uses capital into Next
Generation vs upgrade
-Conversion to Next Generation
may cost more overall than
upgrade.
32. Version / Upgrade Key Steps
• Fill out and Submit an Oracle Support Exception Request Form if
not on version 11.1.2.4
• Oracle sales rep should be able to help you submit
• If enough exceptions are submitted, Oracle may extend 11.1.2.3 error
correction to Dec 2020.
• Review 3rd party compatibility with IT
• Review Audit guidelines with Oracle system support policies
• Scope out requirements/options/resources/financials with your
services provider
• FDM to FDMEE will impact resources and costs on 11.1.2.4 upgrade
