Are there resources available to specific ethnicities? 3) If you know of any good web sites with resources for men, please share the URLs and tell us why you feel the site is of value to men. If you know of any good web sites with resources for women, please share the URLs and tell us why you feel the site is of value to women. 4) How beneficial are health and medical web sites? Why? 6) Provide the URL of at least two sites that discuss the impact of the Internet on any one of the concepts discussed this week and provide a brief review of the information contained there. Did you learn anything new? Were you surprised by any of the information presented on the site? 2. Respond to this discussion 150 Words Minimum, provide direct questions if needed. 1) When looking at the chronology of the development of the Internet, which development do you believe to be the most important? Why? I would say the most important development was the first message sent over ARPANET. A UCLA student named Charley Kline attempted to send a text message that simply said “login”. He got as far as the first two letters (“lo”) and then the system crashed. After waiting an hour to remedy the system the word “login” was successfully sent (Brown, 2017). This is so important because it laid out the framework for our modern internet. 2) In terms of online users, are the genders equally represented? How about for minorities? What types of resources are available online, specifically for men? How valuable to you believe these resources are? What types of resources are available online, specifically for women? How valuable to you believe these resources are? Are there resources available to specific ethnicities? The genders are pretty evenly matched with 74% of men and 72% of women using the internet. Races have a little more gap than gender with 78% of white people having broadband vs 65% of black people and only 58% of Hispanic individuals (Internet, Science & Tech, 2018). The internet has different resources tailed to each sex just as some magazines, literature, media, etc. targets a specific gender and race. YouTube is great resource that can be tailored to a specific interests including race and gender. I can only speak for white men but, the resources are plentif ...

Case Assignment: 10.3 Google Meets The Great Firewall of China The Chinese internet market is exploding. In one decade the number of Chinese with access to the global internet went from 80,000 to 130 million. To enter this lucrative market, American technology firms must participate in the Communist government’s censorship program, which has been dubbed the “Great Firewall of China.” The Chinese Communist government uses a variety of strategies to police websites and internet traffic to determine whether users are breaking the law by defaming the government, divulging state secrets, or promoting separatist movements. Chinese officials ban such “subversive” material as government criticism, pornography, and information about Tibet, Taiwanese independence, and the Falun Gong religious sect. An estimated 30,000-50,000 human censors monitor internet traffic and set up fake sites to catch offenders. Student volunteers steer university chat room discussions, and cartoon icons remind users of the internet rules. Automatic censoring systems remove offensive chat room and bulletin board postings within minutes by detecting and then eliminating messages containing such words as dictatorship, corruption, or truth. Access to a number of websites is blocked, and users can only access portions of other sites. For example, a Chinese citizen may be able to visit an American university website but not be able to access material on a Chinese prodemocracy speaker sponsored by the university. American firms have done their part to shore up the Great Firewall. Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks sell China’s government networking hardware that enables office to filter out content, allowing access to the World Wide Web but only to information favorable to the Chinese government. Yahoo! Screens content and de-list websites like The New York Times and Human Rights Watch from its search engine and, until it’s recent merge with a Chinese provider, did so without notifying users. Yahoo! Also gave Chinese authorities the e-mail address of a journalist who is now serving 10 year prison term for sending material to a democracy website. MSN (Microsoft) censors words and removes blogs at the government request. From 2006 to 2010 Google supported China’s censorship efforts, blocking content that Beijing deems controversial. For instance, Westerners using the search term Tiananmen might get images of protesters being overrun by tanks in 1989. In China, the same search would generate an image of a U.S. official posing for a snapshot in Tiananmen Square. The company’s decision to censor appeared to contradict its motto to “do no evil” and undermined its efforts to provide unlimited access to information. Google justified its action by arguing that censorship is the lesser of two evils. “Filtering our search results clearly compromises our mission,” the firm admitted. “Failing to offer Google search at all to a fifth of the world’s population, however, does so far more severely.” ...

Can digital gadgets make the world a better place? In spring 2014, the betterplace lab, armed with rucksacks and notebooks, set off around the world. Our goal was to research how aid organisations, NGOs, activists and social entrepreneurs are using the internet and mobile phones in 2014 – from India to Senegal, from Rwanda to Brazil. Our first findings: There’s a revolutionary atmosphere building in a lot of the communities we met. An era is dawning globally in which the internet is no longer just for consuming banal content, where mobile phones do far more than communicate. Instead, these resources are being used to involve more citizens in the democratic process, deliver aid resources more efficiently, or educate disadvantaged children. In this brochure we would like to present a small selection of some of the most engaging examples we came across. Like the “Breastfeeding Dads” in Indonesia, who have managed to lower child mortality by mobilising against the mighty milk-powder multinationals. Or “SokoText”, a text message service which lets Kenyan market-stall vendors cooperate to increase their income.

Running Head: Recommendations Recommendations 7 Memorandum: Recommendations Dion Johnson SNHU Date: July 15, 2019 To: Jack Harris, President of Crisis Consulting From: Dion Johnson, VP of Governmental Affairs Subject: Crisis Overview Recommendations Synopsis In 2015 music mogul and entrepreneur Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter immersed himself into the streaming industry is by creating his own streaming platform called Tidal. Carter purchased a small and embattled tech company named Aspiro. Aspiro is a publicly traded stock company under the symbol AB. He would recruit other major artists like Prince, Madonna, Beyoncé, and Rihanna as co-owners to help rebrand the company in an effort to compete with juggernauts like Apple, Spotify, and Google. The service “Tidal: Confidential” is my proposed new feature for the streaming platform. It will permit subscribers to sit in on studio sessions with their favorite artists. The technology would be similar to Facebook’s and Instagram live features, in which the viewers can use a mobile device to receive live/real-time access and interaction with the content creators. Imagine being notified that Beyoncé is working on her next project. Through Tidal: Confidential you can sit in on recording sessions and even offer feedback on her new music. Now the fans can have some direct influence on the music that is made by their favorite singers. People from all over the world enjoy listening to all forms of media entertainment. Because of this it has been a common process for an artist to create a body of work in one country, and then it is shared to people from the other side of the globe. However because of local policies, people from certain countries are banned from indulging in media streaming or media streaming service. China’s President Xi Jinping has made it his objective to restore traditional values and morality into the country’s culture. The Chinese government believes that there is a negative influence being placed on the youth by western culture. The media and government has targeted hip-hop in particular stating “saying that Chinese television "should not feature actors with tattoos (or depict) hip hop culture, sub-culture and immoral culture,"(CNN, 2019). This includes removal of access to social platforms like Google, and Facebook. These restrictions are known as the “Great Firewall of China” or the “Golden Shield Project”. This is a way for the government of China to censor internet content. China is able to do this “Through a combination of firewalls and proxy servers at these gateways, they can analyze and manipulate Internet traffic” (cnbc.com, 2018). It should als ...

The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions. About the author With two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Discover how Victor can help you on victorrentea.ro : company training catalog, consultancy and YouTube playlists.

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.

When you’re building (micro)services, you have lots of framework options. Spring Boot is no doubt a popular choice. But there’s more! Take Quarkus, a framework that’s considered the rising star for Kubernetes-native Java. It always depends on what's best for your situation, but how to choose the best solution if you're comparing 2 frameworks? Both Spring Boot and Quarkus have their positives and negatives. Let us compare the two by live coding a couple of common use cases in Spring Boot and Quarkus. After this talk, you’ll be ready to get started with Quarkus yourself, and know when to select Quarkus or Spring Boot.
