It's not exactly a secret that Microsoft has decided that PowerShell is the optimal management interface for most of its server platforms, not just for the future but also the present, and SharePoint has certainly been no exception to that rule. With the release of SharePoint 2010 three years ago Microsoft introduced a full-fledged management interface for SharePoint with PowerShell, thanks to a snap-in with hundreds of cmdlets as well as the announcement that SharePoint's legacy command line tool, STSADM, was officially deprecated. Now with SharePoint 2013 there's even more new cmdlets to tackle with PowerShell, but that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to SharePoint and PowerShell In this session, John Ferringer will take a look at the various ways PowerShell can interact with SharePoint, covering not just cmdlets in the SharePoint snap-in, but also the availability of cmdlets for use with SharePoint Online (Microsoft's SharePoint in the "cloud" service offered through Office 365), working with the SharePoint Object Model through PowerShell, and even how to work with SharePoint sites without access to a SharePoint server via SharePoint's default web services.
