2. The music video follow a young woman reminiscing of the
good times with her lover. The lyrics suggest that she
doesn’t want her lover to leave her when she ages. She
wishes that even when they both pass that they end up in
heaven together, the music video explores the depth of her
love for her other half whilst questioning his love for her.
3. In his book Dancing in the Distraction Factory, Andrew Goodwin points out
characteristics and features that can be found in music videos.
Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics.
(e.g. stage performance in metal videos, dance routine for boy/girl band, aspiration in
Hip Hop). The typology that my music video lies under is performance, as there is the
main artist belting out the lyrics along with others playing classical instruments. Its of
the genre indie.
There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals. The lyrics are represented with
images.(either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting). In this case their is indeed a
relationship between lyrics and the visuals however the lyrics to tell a story but the
visuals just follow her facial expressions and the emotions are portrayed by the
instruments
There is a relationship between music and visuals. The tone and atmosphere of the
visual reflects that of the music. This again is the case with this music video, the tone of
I slow as well as the visuals, the music is classical along with the visuals of the music
video, there is this vintage filter to the video.
The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist
and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style). With
regards to this music video this is the case as all we see is Lana’s face, she has stuck
to the vintage/ classical theme that she has carried out throughout her album
There are often intersexual reference (to films, TV programmes, other music videos
etc). With regards to this music video there are intertextual references to the movie The
4. The genre of the song is indie rock and Del Rey's
dreamy vocals are accompanied by sedated strings and
canned percussion shown in the video. Flanked by a
full-string orchestra, Del Rey sings in 1920s art deco
fashion . She is shown singing the song in a dark room
where she makes direct contact with the audience,
letting the audience connect with her on an emotional
level. She is wearing heavy make up here but she is
going for a classical look which links to the great Gatsby
which is the movie she is singing for.
