LINKING
WORDS
Linking words are used to link
ideas when writing. So that
people can follow your ideas, in a
logical and cohesive way.

FOR EXAMPLE:

I didn’t go to the party because I
was sick.
COMPARISON
We use these when we are going to
compare something in the sentence.

THEY ARE:
●But : pero
●While:mientras que
●As well as: asi como
● Both:ambos
FOR EXAMPLE

► BUT:

I like apples but I don’t like blackberries
► AS WELL AS:

I like apples as well as bananas.
ADDITION
We normally use these words when we
are going to add more information.

THEY ARE:

  • And: y
    In addition: además
    Also: también
    Too: también ( in the end)
     Furthermore: además
     Moreover: por otra parte
     Apart from: aparte de
     In addition to: además
     Besides: además
FOR EXAMPLE:
 AND:

 He went to his house and found a present.

 IN ADDITION:

 He likes football. In addition he likes tennis


 ALSO:

 He likes football.   He also likes
 tennis.                                          ( 17, 20)
CONTRAST
These linking words are used to indicate
two opposing ideas.

THEY ARE:


But: pero
However: sin embargo
Although: aunque
Though: aunque o pero ( rescatar algo bueno)
FOR EXAMPLE:
BUT:

He likes football but he doesn’t like tennis




HOWEVER:

He likes football. However, he doesn’t like
tennis

THOUGH ( use in the end)

There are also connectors to espress why something
happened or was the consequence.
