1. Research & Planning
When planning my promo video I research three professional videos
which had the same themes and ideas that I wanted to establish in
our video. When researching I look at the camera angles, mise-en-
scene and editing techniques used in the production of the videos.
1. My partner and I decided to produce a video for a r&b song
(Brandy- Take me back) so the video would mostly appeal to Brandy’s
fans but its universal and can be seen by anyone. The scenario of the
music video is realistic so you will find that must of the audience will
connect with the song.
2.The main video that I was intrigued by when planning my video was
Tyrese – Stay. When watching the video it gave me some ideas of
what I could include in our video such as camera angles e.g. close up
shots etc. editing techniques e.g. Cutting on action etc. and mise-en-
scene e.g. mobile phone. These elements helps to bring across the
ideas and themes of the video to the audience so they can connect
with the song.
2. Professional videos
The three professional videos that I researched are Tyrese- Stay
most of the ideas that I noticed in his video was the same ideas that I
wanted to convey in our video e.g. the close-up shot of the cell phone
which is used to show communication. One of the editing technique
that I liked was zoom form his surroundings to a close-up shot of his
face.

The second video that I researched was Avant 4 minutes, this video
also had the same ideas and themes that we wanted to use when
producing our video. The use of slow motions in this video helps to
make the video interesting making the audience anxious over what's
going to happen next.
Also in this video there was the use of a slide show of scenes which
were not flashbacks and this was used to show the different emotions
of the artist in different scenarios, some with him and his girlfriend
together which shows him happy and others when is by himself and
these shows him unhappy.

3. Professional video
The third video that I researched was Ciara- speechless. This video
convey the same ideas and themes as the two other videos.
The location used in this video was a house and this helped me in
making the decision of filming most of our video in a house.
The cutting rate in this video in this video was quit fast and this was
used to create a sense of anxiety.

4. Feedbacks
When we pitched our treatment in we didn’t get a lot of
feedbacks but the few that we received include:
1. One student said that he liked the Idea of the video, that it
goes well with the song.
2. Other teacher suggested that we used white bed spread on
the bed when filming.
3. Anther student said that he liked that the roles of in the video
as been reversed, instead of the boy begging the girl to come
back, it’s the girl doing so. He said that we challenged the
stereotypical view of men always messing up a their
relationship.
4. Another student suggested that we must make the room very
clean.
5. Actors
When my partner and I was seeking actors for our video, we went to a
music listen were we watched the students performed then we made a
selection of the boy and the girl that we wanted to use.
When we have made the selection we asked the boy and the girl and
they both agree to be our actors.
My partner and I keep in touch with our actors by phone and e-mails
to inform them on when we want to film the video to see if they are
available for that day so we can make any other plans if necessary.
locations
In our video only two locations will be used and these two are:
A room inside of a house- I got this idea when watching Tyrese
video Stay, must of his video was filmed inside of his house.
The other location is inside a restaurant- this scene is going to be
a flashback and this was another idea I got from Tyrese’s video.
6. Costumes
In our video we are planning to use only two costumes for the girl and
two costumes for the boy as well.
In the first scene of our video the girl will be in a plain white T-shirt lip
syncing, then there will be a flashback were she will be in a working suit.
The first time that the boy will be seen in the video is in the flashback
with the girl in the working suit, he will be in a casual wear (a shirt and a
jeans).
In the other flashback the boy will be in a suit in a restaurant wanting
for the girl.
The main costume that will be used in our video is a t-shirt which the
girl will be wearing throughout the video excluding the flashbacks.
The t-shirt is used mostly because we want to convey a feeling of
home to our audience.
7. Props
Several props will be used in the production of our video these props
include:
A mobile phone- this is to show a text message between the two
characters (to show communication).
A photograph- this is to inform the audience of the past relationship
between the two characters and how they used to be with each other
before the break-up.
Candles- this is to help to create a dinner setting making it look romantic
and this is used also to show the love the boy as towards the girl.
Flowers- the flowers is will be use to convey love, the love and affection
the boy as towards the girl.
Utensils, dishes etc.- this is will be used also to create a dinner setting.
A ring and a ring box- this is to connote love and marriage.
8. Pre- production
Our pre- production include release forms, production schedules , risk
assessments etc.
These helps in the planning of our video, the production schedules
helps us in planning when we wanted to start and finish our filming our
video. It also helps to plan where we were going to meet, the time that
we are going to meet, our filming periods etc.
The risk assessment helps us in deciding if were we are planning to
film our video is safe enough.
The release forms was used to ask permission from the manager of the
restaurant to use it for filming our video.
We normally keep team meetings with the actors to confirm our plans
to see if everyone have the same understanding of what's suppose to
take place on a particular day.
9. Our storyboard
Our story was used to plan the various number of camera angles, editing
techniques and mise-en-scene that we wanted to use in the production of
our video. It helps us when filming our video, it shows us what to do next
e.g. camera angles etc. so we don’t make any mistakes.
When we were preparing our pre-production divided up the various
task, I asked my partner to do the storyboard and the recce because
she was a better artist than I was. I did the risk assessment and the
production schedules because I liked doing paper work and because
of this division of the work we find that the work load would be easier
on each of us and it would be completed on time.
One of the problem that we encountered was the making of the
recce, we didn’t get to complete it by the deadline because we
didn’t have a suitable camera to take pictures of the locations but
we have gotten a camera and we are going to take the pictures so
we can complete the recce.
10. Time management
My partner and I try our best to manage our time wisely, with the
help of our pre-production especially the production schedule we
plan what needs to be done and when.
We inform our actors before hand of what we want to do in our
team meetings so that they can tell us if they are available on that
particular day or time.
