3. Colour scheme- The colour scheme on this poster is dark
and the colours have connotations of blood and violence. The
colours on it are black, white, blue, yellow and red. Unlike The
Last Exorcism it has more colours however it still looks dull and
you get a negative atmosphere. This is due to the image as it
uses a video effect which is sapphire. The main title is in red
text which again is usually associated with horror and blood.
The blue can also associate with the cold and a chilling feeling.
The black background it self gives the horror imagery as it is.
There are a lot of colours used which sometimes does not go
with horror genres however this worked well as it is not over
done.
Image- from looking at the image we get the feeling of
stillness and we also are waiting for something to come out or
move as is the dog and baby. The effect of the video camera
gives the thought of someone watching over you. The sapphire
colour is used throughout the image and no other colour
making the room gloomy and also builds tension. The baby and
the dog are both looking towards the door giving a foreboding
imagery. The time is shown in the corner so we all know that
this is during the night which most horror/thriller films are. The
image makes us question what are they waiting for? Why is the
dog barking?
4. Tag line- This reads ‘The most anticipated horror event of the year. Steady your nerves, your sleepless
nights are about to return’. This is written in white and approximately size 10, the font used is serif making it
easier to read. Also this font gives a creepy look as serif font is usually used for formal text giving the poster a
serious look. The tag line stands out as it is on a black background this contrast makes the text stand out. The
text is very exaggerated and tells us it is the best horror movie out and you can’t get any better than this. This
exaggerated line makes you eager to watch it and you feel a sense of excitement of the horror it will give you.
The after effects of watching a horror movie leaves the viewer on edge and loss of sleep as the picture of
horror remains in your mind. The last sentence prepares the viewer by informing them that it is so scary that
they will suffer from it and the image will remain for days. It is also put into four lines building up tension and
also the spacing out of the lines makes it easier for the audience to read as if they see a bulk of text they
would find it boring to read.
Film title- The title has the broken camera effect on it as you can see there is a shadow of the same
text blurred out at the back with lines. It uses the same effect as the image which again is like someone
watching over you. However this time the camera has been broken and this can be shown through the
title effect. The title is the largest text on the poster obviously because it is the main title it is probably
size 16. Paranormal Activity 2 is written in red and blue however mostly red this is the only text in red
which makes the film title stand out and gives connotation of blood, gore and violence. I like the way
they had a separate font colour for number 2 as it shows it is the second movie out and makes it clear
through the colour used. The font used is sans serif which is usually used for short text helping it stand
out
5. Website name- This reads ‘ParnormalMovie.com’ The website name is short and they have cut of
the word activity 2 making it more simple. I believe they cut of the number 2 as the website may have
information about the first movie. A short website name works well for all movies as it is well
remembered by viewers. It is placed above the date line and the third largest text on the poster. From
looking at the poster I believe this was a great spot to put it in as most audience look for the date of
when the film are being released and above it you see the website for more information, so its hard to
miss. This is in serif font and in blue matching with the image and is approximately size 12.
Date line- this is placed at the bottom in a large font size which I believe is around 14. the second
largest text on the poster making it appealing and also because it is in white. The white text on the
poster stands out more not including the yellow text. This is because white and black go well together
and is clearer to read then blue on black. The colour of the text and size makes it clear for the viewers
when exactly its coming out. There is an exact date to when it is released making sure the viewer
knows exactly when they can watch it. The text also looks bolder to the other text showing the
importance of the dateline. The font used is sans serif like the title.
6. Eye flow- I thought the eye flow of this poster was an
‘S’ shape as when I first looked at it I started from the
image down to the tile and website/dateline. I then
went back to read the tag line.
