Our Client – BBC Three
The Factual Development Scheme for the North of England, Northern Voices, is being launched
by a new partnership between our clients, BBC Three and BBC England. With the promise of a
commission at the end of the process, the new partnership is seeking independent production
companies from the local area to submit concepts that portray the experiences of 16 to 24-year-
olds in the area. The documentary section explores the issue of "Culture in the Digital Age,"
focusing on how the advent of digital technology has affected young people's culture. The
requirement of this project is to create a short documentary film. Our target audience for this
project is young people from the ages of 16-24. The aim is to engage young people and
encourage them to think about the impact of the digital age on modern society. For our BBC
Three project I have been tasked with creating a 10-15 minute short documentary with the
theme of culture in the digital age.
Existing Products- The extraordinary origins
of modern pagan witchcraft:
To do more research on my client and my
subject research, I decided to watch some
documentaries about the topic that I will be
doing. One of the documentaries that I watch
was The Extraordinary Origins of Modern
Pagan Witchcraft, by watching this
documentary I can learn how an expository
documentary is filmed and edited, and this
will help me when it comes to the time when
I need to film my documentary as I will know
how I can structure my documentary.
Audience Research
To get a wide range of answers I uploaded a
survey to a Facebook group about witchcraft.
From this survey, I understood how the people
in the group think social media/the internet
has affected witchcraft. From the result I
received I can understand what parts of social
media or the internet to focus on, for example,
I might focus on how witchcraft is more
accessible and acceptable.
Subject Research- The
Pendle Witch Trial
For this project I need to choose something to base my
documentary on, so I decided to do witchcraft. The first
part of my subject research, I research into the trial of
the Pendle witches that took place in Lancaster because
not many people know about the witches in the North-
West of England, they only know about Salem Witch Trial
and Mother Shipton. So I decided to look into it more so
I can include the information that I have learned into my
documentary.
Interview Questions
How has the internet influenced witchcraft?
How witchcraft as a practice and a religion is more open?
How is witchcraft is more accessible?
These are some of the example questions that I might ask people who I will be interviewing for
my documentary, I will be interviewing people to get their view on how witchcraft has been
influenced by social media and the internet and how the practise is more open in this century.
My Idea
For my idea, I am thinking about how the internet has influenced witchcraft, this will be based
on how research and information about the different elements of witchcraft are more accessible
and how the practice is more open. In the documentary, I will talk about what witchcraft is,
because I want to give a little background on the main topic that I am doing, then a select part
of witchcraft history will be the Pendle Witch Trials of Lancashire, next I will be talking about
witchcraft in the modern age and finally I will talk about how the practice is more open in the
modern age and that is can be expressed in many different ways, e.g. social media this will be
through the interviews that I will be conducting. All of the topics will be presented either
through my own voice or through interviews that I will conduct, I will also different kinds of
footage with many camera angles, shots and sizes.
