Redeeming Love's Struggle with Unworthiness
1.
2. Redeeming Love is a love story about a
young prostitute named Angel living in
California during the 1800âs. She is the most
beautiful women in the town. A Christian
man named Michael Hosea feels he must
marry her and eventually does. Angel only
marries him to leave her exhausting lifestyle.
They go through many trials together and
eventually, after a roller coaster of events
and emotions, she falls in love with him.
3. Angel doesnât love Michael and has a
very difficult time accepting his love. She
is filled with guilt because of her
scandalous past. She doesnât feel
worthy.
She also believes men & love are evil
and doesnât want to let herself fall into it,
because of the terrible example her
mother gave her when she was young.
4. The author does a good job of showing
the conflict in this story. Angel and
Michael have many discussions and
incidents involving Angelâs past and how
she does not feel worthy to even live in
his house, much less accept his love. She
even ends up running away â twice,
because of this feeling of unworthiness.
5. ï
âŠShe wanted him to understand.
âMichael, itâs[a prostitute] all Iâve ever
been. Itâs all Iâm ever going to be. You
just donât understand. Itâs never going to
be the way you want it to be, Michael. It
canât be! Even if there ever had been a
chance, thatâs gone now. Donât you
see?â (page 197)
6. The conflict is resolved when Angel runs
away again and falls back in the clutches
of her old mister, Duke, who makes her
become a prostitute again and manage his
younger girls too. She is saved by a man
who gives her food and shelter. He is also a
Christian. She lives with his family and begins
to help prostitutes leave their dreadful life.
Michael ends up finding her and sees she is
a changed woman. Angel (whose real
name is Sarah) realizes she loves him and
goes back home with him. She no longer
feels unworthy and allows love into her life.
7. I relate to Angel in the sense that many I
times I donât feel worthy of things
because of decisions and actions I have
done in the past. I should realize that I
am forgiven and that I can continue on
happily with my life without regrets ï
