Apply 3-inch blanket of specified compost prior to or during seed application.
First till existing soil to a depth of 8-inches to loosen soil and kill turf. Compost shall
be Soilmate Compost available from Loudoun Composting44150 Wade Drive,
Chantilly, VA 20152, Phone: 703-327-8428, FAX: 703-327-0649 or an approved
equal. The paper work, samples and STA certifications for all alternates shall be
submitted and approved prior to purchase. Alternates must be STA approved by the
U.S. Composting Council's Seal of Testing Assurance Program.
Broadcast, pump or hand seed at ¾lb/1000 ft2 and annual rye (Lolium multiflorum) at
1lb/1000 ft2 on top of applied 3-inch blanket of specified compost. Immediately cover
with light straw mulch for stabilization and moisture retention. Eliminate straw if the
seed is integrated into the compost and pumped on. Substitute winter wheat for annual
rye if seeding after October 1. Reseed and mulch all areas with less than 80%
germination.
Custom pure live seed (PLS) ERNST mix or approved equivalent. Seed can be
purchased through ERNST Conservation Seeds at 9006 Mercer Pike, Meadville,

5191 (Fax). The paper work, samples and certifications for all alternates shall be
submitted and approved prior to purchase.
