Description:
The Brookfield Park Wet Pond Construction project was substantially completed on November 14, 2014. The project
consisted of rebuilding a failing wet pond to meet present day standards for stormwater detention and water quality.
Project Overview:
• Reconstruction of existing leaky & eroded dam (35 ft. high)
• Installation of a new semi circular riser structure with an observation deck
• Installation of a wetland forebay system and sediment removal
• Installation of grasscrete access road and restoration of parking lot with permeable pavement
• Restoration of two stormwater outfalls
• Incorporation of native landscaping to include vegetated floating wetlands
• Reduction of 147.1 lbs. of total nitrogen per year, 32.2 lbs. of total phosphorus per year, and 3.2 tons of sediment per
year leading to the Accotink Creek.
