Important Clarifications on the term “Cloud”

There is not one Cloud, it is like a real sky!

 IaaS: Servers, Load balancers, storage, etc.
 Without an system admin you are lost.

 PaaS: Managed Environment for different proposes. Google Apps, Microsoft
  Azure, Force.com,
 Every tried to deploy your SAP installation on Azure? Support for your application
         is required!

 SaaS: Application Service Providing with a special purpose like Sales Force,
  Microsoft Office 365
 If you don’t find an application that is matching your requirements you have a
problem. You can’t change the feature set.

eZ Publish Cloud

What do we want to achieve with the eZ Publish Cloud?

 We still want to use a full featured eZ Publish in different version (e.g. 4.7, 5, )
 We want the freedom to create a customized solution
 We don’t want to deal with nitty-gritty settings for Load Balancers, MySQL, eZ
  Find, etc.
 We need a stable and highly available platform.
 We need performance if it comes to content delivery (e.g. CDN, Reverse
  Proxies)

We need to build a PaaS

Myths and Truths about the eZ Cloud

What you can expect:
 It is a production environment
 There is an integrated staging environment
 Automatic deployment mechanisms to install your code

What you will not find:
 Development Environment to develop your solution
 Testing tools for your installation
 SSH or direct Database access

Presenter: Michael Friedmann 12/4/2012 Slide 5
Preview of the Installer GUI

Presenter: Michael Friedmann 12/4/2012 Slide 6
Is the cloud secure enough?

 Yes, in most cases it is even more secure than a comparable installation
maintained by your hosting partner or yourself.
 Hosting partner usually has not so much knowledge about the eZ application stack
         as eZ and Ixonos together.
 Patching eZ Publish, optimized settings for webserver and DB are a challenges if
you are not eZ Support or eZ Consulting
 Automated and standardized deployments leading to less errors during
installations and therefore to a more secure system

 Data privacy is harmonized across the EU, so no difference between hosting
  in Germany or Finland.

 Sometime size matters. The only thing that could give some kind of security
  against DDoS attacks is size.

 Choice of right partner is key for getting a secure solution

Important Clarifications on the term “Cloud” There is not one Cloud, it is like a real sky!  IaaS: Servers, Load balancers, storage, etc.  Without an system admin you are lost.  PaaS: Managed Environment for different proposes. Google Apps, Microsoft Azure, Force.com,  Every tried to deploy your SAP installation on Azure? Support for your application is required!  SaaS: Application Service Providing with a special purpose like Sales Force, Microsoft Office 365  If you don’t find an application that is matching your requirements you have a problem. • 7. Is the cloud secure enough?  Yes, in most cases it is even more secure than a comparable installation maintained by your hosting partner or yourself.  Hosting partner usually has not so much knowledge about the eZ application stack as eZ and Ixonos together.  Patching eZ Publish, optimized settings for webserver and DB are a challenges if you are not eZ Support or eZ Consulting  Automated and standardized deployments leading to less errors during installations and therefore to a more secure system  Data privacy is harmonized across the EU, so no difference between hosting in Germany or Finland.  Sometime size matters. The only thing that could give some kind of security against DDoS attacks is size.  Choice of right partner is key for getting a secure solution Presenter: Michael Friedmann 12/4/2012 Slide 7
