3. Short description of the Project

Project covered the activities of procurement of new
equipment, in compliance with the EU standards.
EU HETIP funds: 1,542.956,37 EUR
Main goal: Quality improvement of the educational, scientific
and research work at the University of Novi Sad by
improving the existing and introducing new e-services.

4. I. Increase of communications
capacities of infrastructure
• Procurement, installation and calibration of communications
equipment that provides:
– 10G links on communication lines to institutions with Grid Computing
requirements
– 10G links towards points on which the academic network of the University of
Novi Sad connects with public networks and the Academic Network of Serbia
– 10G links at locations on which the system infrastructure equipment is located
– 1G links towards all users in spaces intended for education and research work
of the Central building of the University
– Undisturbed managing of traffic streams
– Implementation of methods providing high level security
– Implementation of IPv6 protocols
– Logical seperation of parts of the network on which experimental activities and
the activities of training of a broad expert base can be achieved.
5. II. Increase of server capacities of
infrastructure
• Procurement, installation and calibration of system infrastructure
information equipment (as are servers and storage systems) that
provides:
– Archiving digitalised scientific material
– Archiving multimedia material
– Distribution and exchange of multimedia material of high
resolution in real time
– Increase of possibilities of providing services of virtual servers for
the requirements of teaching and research activities.
6. III. Increase of multimedia capacities of
infrastructure
• Procurement, installation and calibration of multimedia equipment
that provides:
– A larger number of equipped premises in which teaching and scientific activities
are being performed for the requirements of distance learning, the requirements
of exchange of scientific results, and exercising team participation in research
projects
– Full support for activities realised in the Amphitheatre of the Central building
– Integration through communications infrastructure with the information and
communication infrastructure and library infrastructure
– Full support for providing a multimedia service when organising meetings and
conferences of an educational and scientific character
– Possibility of implementing projects for the requirements of staff working in
multimedia fields
7. IV. Increase in library information
capacities
• Procuring, installation and calibration of the library information
equipment that provides:
– Cleaned and preventively protected fund of all library information units of the
University of Novi Sad (Central Library, faculty and institute libraries) with
simultaneous saving of funds due to unified procurement of equipment which
will be made available to all listed units
– Digital copies of old and rare books owned by individual faculties
– Digital copies of books and textbooks, particular chapters from collections or
journal articles used in the scientific and teaching process of all units
– Digital copies of microforms owned by individual faculties
– Digital copies and scanned copies of the entire archive of all faculties and
institutes within the structure of the UNS

and database of doctoral dissertations
produced at the University,
• Wireless access to e-services in the area of
the University campus
• Remote access to e-services (dial-up or
VPN),
• Videoconferences.

3. Capacity will be built for the possibility of introducing new
e-services, as are:
- Access to library funds of the University in electronic form
- Utilisation of the University's integrated information system
- Distance learning
- Grid Computing.
12. Central Library of UNS:
Modern multimedia equipment

New equipment for cleaning, protection and digitalisation of the library funds
within the shortest time-limit and in a very secure way.
Ability to provide a significantly larger number of users with access to them and their
utilisation.
The expenses regarding the acquisition of a large number of text-books would be
reduced - the most frequent titles could be promptly digitalised and offered to the
readers in this form.
Reduced damage of library funds that occurs in many cases while photocopying
Protection of the health and longevity of books, as well as of all people that deal with
books, including library employees.
Additional effect of environmental protection (reduction of gaseous material and
chemical use in the process of book protection)
Automatic devices and robot scanners minimise mechanical human labour and
the effect maximised.
