This impacts directly our ability to operate:
❑ less scholarships for IHVVTC
❑ less investments to expand our activities
We need to find new funding sources. Therefore,
we have to engage new stakeholders who need to
understand who we are, what we do and how we
operate. We will disclose soon our first impact
report to initiate this journey.
Fortunately, since 2015 we did our homework to
register all the entities involved in our activities.
Still, we have more work to do…
8. Challenge #2
Reinforcing our corporate governance…
Our foundation is a « family owned and
driven » organization. Therefore, we have to
cope with the same challenges as most of the
Myanmar businesses.
✗ Clear definition of the chairperson’s role and
responsibilities
✗ Structuring and enforcing sound corporate
governance practices
✗ Board of Directors / Trustees
✗ Corporate policies, especially on donation,
RPT
✗ Due diligence
✗ Skills
WHAT WE NEED…
We distinguished our foundation from our other
entities, and all of them are registered.
WHAT WE HAVE…
Registration Year of registration
Inthar Heritage Co. Ltd. 103876176 2015
Inle Heritage Foundation 2/Shan/013 2016
Inle Heritage Private School Yes 2017
9. Challenge #3
Changing the perspectives
✗ CSR as a mandatory expenditure
✗ Complicated and time-consuming
discussion with the IRD
✗ Philanthropy as something disconnected
from the business
✗ Lack of transparency and accountability
FROM
✓ Philanthropy as impact investment
✓ Clear legal framework and incentives (tax,
governance, etc.)
✓ Promoting responsible corporate
philanthropy practices (reporting,
disclosure, etc.)
✓ New paradigm to renew the approach
between various stakeholders
eg: public/private; Myanmar/foreign; for
profit/not for profit; … etc
