Wiki Definition
Station identification (ident, network ID or channel ID) is the practice of radio or television stations or
networks identifying themselves on-air, typically by means of a call signor brand name (sometimes known,
particularly in the United States, as a "sounder" or "stinger", more generally as a station or network ID).
This may be to satisfy requirements of licensing authorities, a form of branding or a combination of both.
As such, it is closely related to production logos used in television and cinema, alike.
Station identification used to be done regularly by an announcer at the halfway point during the
presentation of a television program, or in between programs.
What Makes A GOOD Ident
-Often the most simplistic designs can be the most interesting, however technology has allowed
television and cinemas to create amazing CGI’d Idents that inspire comedy and art.
-Animation is the most popular form of Ident as they are the most up to date form of technology in
terms of producing logos and marketing.
-colourful idents dominate the market as they are most appealing to consumers.
-the most well known is the lion ident.
-good idents are well suited to the show or movie that they are played before to add dramatic effect
or as a preliminary indication to the genre/quality of the film.
What Makes A BAD Ident
- Black and white
-poor camera quality
-no animation
-poor design of relevance to movie/tv show
-copying or familiarity of other well known idents
-lack of individuality, or not standing out and attracting attention.
