The document describes the career path of an individual who started out wanting to be an architect or lawyer but ended up working in various industries including automotive, advertising, real estate, and more. Over time, their career goals and aspirations changed from wanting to sit behind a desk to seeking stability and providing for their family. While their current career is not what they originally envisioned, they have no regrets and are happy with where they are today, looking ahead to future goals and plans.
When I was a young boy living in Colorado and New Mexico I dreamed about becoming an architect or a lawyer. I used to love to draw. You would not catch me without a pencil, a ruler, and a piece of paper for the longest time. Then when I was introduced to Judge Wapner, I began to take an interest in the legal field.
Soon after High School I began college. But unfortunately, such as many young men, I found the world of girls. Shortly after that, I realized that girls like you to spend money on them and buy things. So I put my desires to become an architect or a lawyer on hold, for what I thought would be a short while, and went to work. I started at Schucks Auto parts and after a short time went to Auto Zone where I promptly spent the next 2 ½ years.
About the time I was ready to get married, I figured that Auto Zone wasn’t going to pay the bills. It was then that I went to work for Casa Chevrolet as it was known at the time. After a while, and after I got married, my wife at the time and I decided to move to Oregon. I spent a short amount of time at Wentworth Buick, then moved to Randy Jones Chevrolet where I stayed for 7 years. After beginning to get burned out on Chevrolet parts, I took a job at Guaranty Chevrolet – RV figuring that the change of pace and selling RV parts would interest me for a while. I managed to hold that interest for about 4 years before a different career path began calling me.
When I tired of the automotive industry, I began looking for something a bit more, shall we say, professional. I went to work for the Albany Democrat-Herald as a retail advertising salesperson. It was good work, but not what I really wanted to do. Shortly there after, and after a few other jobs, I went to work in the Real Estate industry for Prudential Real Estate Professionals. It was here that I realized that my desire to have a desk job was what I really wanted to do. Unfortunately, after about a year, and with the slowdown in the market, Prudential closed the office I was in. After meandering a while, I ended up with the same basic job at Coldwell Banker Valley Brokers.
Am I where I envisioned I would be twenty plus years ago? No, I am not. I thought that I would have already had my degree and been in my chosen career field by now.
Goals are a good thing. Two of my long term goals at this point are stability and being able to provide for my family both in the short term and the long term.
In conclusion, my life is not quite what I envisioned it would be, but I am happy where I am currently and would not change a thing. My goals of getting a job, being successful and being able to provide for my family are pretty easily attainable. I am aspiring to be the best I can be at whatever I choose to do. I know the right situation is out there for me, I just need to look for it. In the future, I am hoping that no matter what I do, and where ever this path takes me, I am happy.
