2. We visited the Tanzania village of the Massai in January 2006, and found our call to serve. The proud village was in need of schools for their children , wells for drinking water, laundry and gardening, and a vocational school for the adults. Since January 2006, we’ve been able to build a school for children in grades 1 – 3, a soccer field and have provided enough supplies for the next year (books, food and even gym shoes!). Next we need to build 2 wells (at $20,000 a piece), a school and supplies for the older children and the vocational school for the adults.
3. We are holding a fundraiser at the home of Kellie O’Brien – the creator of this effort and sponsor of the O’Brien School of the Massai, on September 15, 2007. The event will include a catered dinner and live band. Plus a plea to join us in the effort. All funds (including tickets) from the attendees will go directly to the village for these efforts. On average, we are expecting to collect $1000 per couple. With the 300 attendees, we are expecting to raise $150,000. This will allow us to build both wells, the second school and the vocational school. The additional funds will support food, beds, clothes and school supplies. The attendees of this event include CEO’s of Chicago based companies, professional golfers and other executive level professionals. The average HHI is estimated at $850,000.
