Nanocrowd 2.0: Transforming a website into an interactive consumer touch application We’ll show you how Sencha Touch enabled our team (a bunch of desktop PC and Web nerds) to transform our recommendation website into an interactive multimedia mobile consumer app for finding and watching movies on the iPad. We used a combination of technology including Sencha Touch, HTML5, and webSQL. We’ll show the code and methods we developed to: find and display lists of movies with embedded buttons, database info, and media objects; present context-sensitive information and navigate collections of related videos; and manage a complex client/server data storage model. Doug Millasich designs and develops the code and databases that drive Nanocrowd products. He has 20 years of experience with companies like Honeywell and Sabre, building applications in a variety of programming languages and databases. These days he builds mobile web applications using C#, PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, MySQL, WebSQL, and Sencha Touch. Roderic March has founded and led several ventures ranging from low-technology LBO’s to high-tech start-ups, including FirstFloor Software which merged with Calico Commerce and went public. His passion is developing tools that analyze and predict consumer preferences and purchase behavior. At Nanocrowd, Roderic’s focus is on building technology that understands why people like things - starting with movies.

How do you get developers to write good documentation without feeling like they're wasting their time? There are plenty of good documentation tools out there such as TomDoc, YarDoc, and RDoc. These tools are useful for creating documentation for tools, gems and varies open source projects and each one has it's unique way of making documentation easier for developers. However, how do you manage documentation for a product? At Engine Yard we have our Engine Yard Cloud platform. Good external documentation for our customers is very important to us. We want to make sure they can easily understand how to use our platform and be able to accomplish what they need. However, it has been difficult to get good documentation out quickly. In the thrilling conclusion to 2023, ransomware groups had a banner year, really outdoing themselves in the "make everyone's life miserable" department. LockBit 3.0 took gold in the hacking olympics, followed by the plucky upstarts Clop and ALPHV/BlackCat. Apparently, 48% of organizations were feeling left out and decided to get in on the cyber attack action. Business services won the "most likely to get digitally mugged" award, with education and retail nipping at their heels. Hackers expanded their repertoire beyond boring old encryption to the much more exciting world of extortion. The US, UK and Canada took top honors in the "countries most likely to pay up" category. Bitcoins were the currency of choice for discerning hackers, because who doesn't love untraceable money?
