Why Is It Important To Have A College Education
Over the years, I have come to realize how important it is to have a college education. I have also
learned to appreciate the fact that I even have the opportunity to go to college. What inspires me
to keep pushing for success is my father's willpower. When my dad left India to come to the
United States of America, he had nothing but a small apartment, an arduous job at a textile mill,
and barely any support from his family. "There were times," he tells me, "that I never saw the
light of day because for months on end I began working before the crack of dawn and finished long
after sundown." Today, my dad is a well–established Safety Manager for a company and makes
enough money to allow my family to live comfortably in one of the best neighborhoods

learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young." For years, I
thought I was just too old to return to school. However, for 20 years, I've worked in a career that
provided great financial stability, but it never brought happiness. When I was laid–off, I made the
decision to not return to the corporate world; instead, I started my process of becoming a

Great advantages, brings amazing benefits to being an adult learner. The benefit to being an adult
leaner is having over 20 years of real–life work and personal experience. Why not, use the
knowledge I have learned, and apply it to a college education. Haley Drucker author of "Going
Back to College as an Adult: The Benefits" mentions, adults are more focused and understand the
importance of an education. It's important to me to gain all the knowledge I can to be a
successful counselor. My focus comes from being able to spend quality time with my husband and
children. We have to move away from doing things we are use too or what is safe, and do things
we enjoy. The benefit of being an adult learner we tend to develop a more cohesive plan to achieve
our goals. Antoine de Saint–ExupГ©ry, French Author, said "A goal without a plan is just a wish."
I have developed a four step plan to achieve my goals: 1. Get over the notion I was too old to
return to school, 2. Find a job which would pay for my education, but still give me the flexibility
to be at home, 3. Enroll in a school, which was affordable and can be controlled by my own pace
and 4. Build a brand others will appreciate around the world. A great plan brings motivation and
inspiration. As adult learners we must be motivated and inspired by other adult learners. I am
inspired by my mother, Tecora Rogers the DePaul Graduate and motivated by my husband and three
children to succeed.

Importance of a College Education
Higher education paves a future and provides opportunities for students to grow. Continuing
education is something that is very important and is essential for the growth and development of an
individual. By getting an education, a person is able to rise above the rest and is able to achieve so
much more in life. College education is a step further and takes a person into realms that can only
be understood and appreciated by someone that has earned a college degree. Although, college is
expensive, it provides several opportunities for students to grow, and gives them a better chance of
obtaining a position in the work force.
Higher education systems can be considered very valuable because they provide individuals with life
skills that are essential to being successful in life. While studying at a higher education system, one
is forced to develop essential time management skills. Allison Acquaviva, a student from Utica
College, states that "College gave me a little glimpse into how to be better organized, balance fun and
work, and put my priorities in order." Acquaviva, is insisting that while attending college she learned
how to better organize her life. With time needed for studying, attending classes, completing
homework, relaxation, and doing fun things as well, one needs to manage their time in order to
avoid failing out. These time management skills help out individuals later on in life. Another
important skill that individuals who

Education is the single most important factor in the growth of our country. Specifically, higher
education paves a future and provides opportunity for students that attend college and gives them a
shot at a career. 50 years ago, college was strictly for the elite, high class Americans. Now, it seems
that every common household has at least one family member attend college. But with the increasing
drop out rate today, students seem less interested in learning at college and their priorities change
from their original goal of graduating. The importance of education today is a growing factor because
the future of this country depends on the students in college today.
College is misunderstood by many incoming freshman. All of...show more content...
Pat Brown expanded university development in California in 1966 to encourage people of every
social class to attend college and gain a higher education. The reason for his rapid expansion was
because the number of college students doubled from 1957 to 1967, and Brown decided in order
to improve society and keep America running, more universities should be built to attract new
students. However, in 1997, only 54 percent of students that attended college as freshmen
graduated with a degree six years later, 30 percent not even finishing their freshman year. Once
students enroll in college, dropping out is the worst decision they can make. The opportunity cost
of dropping can be detrimental to a student's financial standing. Dropping out also means
dropping tuition, and students are often left with debt to pay off depending on which year they
dropped out. Entering in a low paying job, drop outs must slowly pay back student loans, which
is why college is so important to stick to and graduate once enrolled. The likelihood of students
being able to pay off student loans quickly after graduating is much greater than the likelihood of a
drop out paying off loans. Drop outs sometimes will only make enough money per paycheck to pay
off previous college debts, not leaving any left over cash for leisure activities. Once choosing the
decision to attend college, remaining in college is the most important

It provides millions of opportunities to become educated. In many other countries, education is
prohibited, especially to women. It is important to take advantage of these prospects that our country
has given us and make the most of our educational experience, and eventually make the most of our
careers. The United States provides us with scholarships, financial aid, and community colleges to
get around the high cost of education. These benefits are given to us so that more and more educated
Americans can contribute to our society.
In the near future, I expect to gain many important aspects from my college education. The first
and most important thing I hope to gain from this experience is independence. In my opinion,
having a successful career of your own is one of the best things you can accomplish. The best
matter to never have to worry about, is depending on other people. You never know what will
happen to you in the future. You always want something to fall back on something and a college
diploma is the perfect answer. The last component that I hope to gain from college is a great life
experience that I will never forget. This is only my first semester as a freshman, but I can already
predict that college is going to give me all of these gifts.
In Alice Walker's Everyday Use, Walker seems to view a college education as a good thing in

took charge and accepted that if I want change in my life it's my responsibility to do so. I started to
do mindful activities like yoga, reading, writing, and painting to help ease my mind of anxiety. I also
became more active regularly through yoga, as well as hiking and swimming for a natural form of
pain relief. College life really helped me with my journey to self–love and health. I found that many
of my college courses gave me comfort through their material and because I simply enjoyed

With a college education, skills are found through whichever kind of major that will help continue
move up the ladder to a profitable gross. In recent years, many critics have stressed that dropping
out of school to pursue a successful life is not needed with a complete college education. Many
entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs and David Thomas, have become successful without the education
that is stressed today. Yet, if using wealth as a measure of success, Forbes' 2012 edition revealed that
85% of Americas 400 richest people and successful citizens do in fact possess a college degree (Is a

I feel that getting a good college education is important because it will make sure you have a
successful life after that if you only graduate from high school. It also makes you challenge yourself
and it could inspire you.Getting a higher education will give you more choices in life than if you

and build more knowledge, skills, and brainpower and going to college can also help you live a
healthier and happier life.
My first reasoning I thought was important on why you should go to college is you earn more
money and will have a better chance at getting a job before someone who only has a high school
diploma will.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2010, the median weekly earnings
with some college but with no degree were $712, compared to $1,038 for a college graduate. After
college, most people will have a better chance at getting a job,"In most respects," The Hamilton

it's worth it because having a college degree rather than just a high school diploma, you're most

September 1, 2017 There are many choices and paths to choose when the time comes to attend
college however, a question to ask is, is it worth it? If decided to attend college, the following
decision to be made revolves around an area of study one would like to pursue and the topic of
study that will be available for them. Though many can further their education in different ways, a
couple of ways consist of attending a four year college (private/ public) or a community college. Not
going to college at all is the other alternative, but is it really a smart idea? Most adults have
continuously told young students all through high school to attend college. A student's chance of
economic success in the future can be risen due to a college education. Judith Scott–Clayton, who is
an assistant professor of economics and education at Teachers College at Columbia University states,
"Individuals with bachelor's degrees earn about 60 percent more than those with just a high school
diploma, who in turn earn about 40 percent more than high school dropouts." Students who seek
higher education, are more likely to experience a better future and a better life. The cost of going to
college may seem overwhelming at times however, the experiences and education obtained
throughout college is priceless in regards to the way one interacts with others on a global basis, has

When it comes to embarking on post secondary education the views of it's importance and relevance
is controversial. In Murray's Op–Ed piece, "Should The Obama Generation Drop Out", he believes a
college education is unnecessary. I, however disagree with Murray's notion. College is necessary
according to a person's career choice and it's requirements. Throughout my middle and high school
years, both my peers and I were strongly encouraged to go to college. I was not only urged by
teachers, but my family members also. It is intriguing how closely connected that is after Murray
discussed how college is promoted and organized. Growing up, I was taught that college would
be the door of opportunity to a guaranteed better life. While college maybe unnecessary for some,
it is necessary for others. As for myself, I believe college is necessary in order for me to advance
towards my career in Journalism. Upon my high school graduation, I had decided to go straight

The Importance Of A College Education
During their high school career, students may begin to question the importance of a college
education. They might find themselves asking, "Why is it important to go to college?" The answer
is that, more than ever, attending college provides opportunities for graduates which are not as
widespread to those who have not received a higher education.
For many high school students, being able to immediately generate an income after graduation is an
appealing thought. They may also be repelled by the rising cost of tuition, and while it is true that a
higher education may be one of the largest expenses you will ever face, the importance of a college
education has become quite evident in terms of earning potential within today's economy.
Why Should You go to College?
One important answer to this question is more opportunity. As opposed to generations of the past,
high school graduates today are unable to obtain the number of high–paying jobs that were once
available. The U.S. has been transformed from a manufacturing–based economy to an economy
based on knowledge, and the importance of a college education today can be compared to that of a
high school education forty years ago. It serves as the gateway to better options and more
opportunity.
There are additional reasons as to why it is important to go to college. When students experience a
post secondary education, they have the opportunity to read books and listen to the lectures of top
experts in their fields. This stimulation encourages students to think, ask questions, and explore new
ideas, which allows for additional growth and development and provides college graduates with an
edge in the job market over those who have not experienced a higher education.
The importance of a college education is also accentuated because of the opportunity to gain
valuable resources during your tenure. The more connections which are collected during your
college career, the more options you will have when you begin your job search. Once you have
ended your job search and have started your career, however, the importance of a college education
has not been exhausted. Having a college degree often provides for greater promotion opportunity.
So, why should you go to college?

It was not until I had my son that I realized just how important it is to have a college education.
Despite working more than forty hours a week at a daycare, I was struggling to pay bills and

The Importance Of A College Education
The importance of a college degree is centered around society views on telling students that it is
the right way to go. The biggest reason college is not an option for some people because of debt.
"As of June 2016, about 42 million Americans owed $1.3 trillion in student debt," (Is a College
Education). Also, the debt can cause students to go out and waste their college degrees. For
example, when students graduate they live with their parents and also delay relationships. On the
account of debt that college brings, going to college is worth the cost because you would learn new
skills, will have financial and career benefits, and the ability to self–improve. When going to college
you learn new that would help them after their college years. The skill college students would learn
would be interpersonal skills, motivation skills, and time–management. "According to Arthur
Chickering's "Seven Vectors" student development theory, "developing mature interpersonal
relationships" is one of the seven stages students progress through as they attend college," (Is a

student clubs and organizations, and take part in discussions. College students learn motivation
skills by them getting up and going to class without anyone telling them to, there no one forcing
them to attend class. They have to have self–motivation to set goals, be focus, and be responsible.

A college education is important to me because it opens my future for better opportunities within the
medical field. Currently, a pharmacist is a profession that I am the most interested in because I enjoy
chemistry, the meticulous, and well organized work that they are known for. A collegeeducation will
teach me the skills to become a pharmacist, provide me with hands–on experiences in this career, and
give me ample resources to find a job in the most enjoyable career path. Even if I choose to pursue a
different career, a college education will most definitely prepare me for the career as long as I am
willing to study and work hard. In the competitive world that we live in, even a low–paying job can
be difficult to procure, not to mention how scarce high–paying jobs and reasonable working
conditions are. A college education makes it easier to get high paying jobs and stand out in job
applications. College graduates have an edge and a larger variety of jobs to choose from. Even if
through the college education I do not find what I enjoy doing, the professors, people I would have

Importance Of A College Education Essay

  • 1. Why Is It Important To Have A College Education Over the years, I have come to realize how important it is to have a college education. I have also learned to appreciate the fact that I even have the opportunity to go to college. What inspires me to keep pushing for success is my father's willpower. When my dad left India to come to the United States of America, he had nothing but a small apartment, an arduous job at a textile mill, and barely any support from his family. "There were times," he tells me, "that I never saw the light of day because for months on end I began working before the crack of dawn and finished long after sundown." Today, my dad is a well–established Safety Manager for a company and makes enough money to allow my family to live comfortably in one of the best neighborhoods Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Henry Ford, said, "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young." For years, I thought I was just too old to return to school. However, for 20 years, I've worked in a career that provided great financial stability, but it never brought happiness. When I was laid–off, I made the decision to not return to the corporate world; instead, I started my process of becoming a successful counselor and motivational speaker. Spending time with my family and doing what makes me happy are my overall goals in life. So here I am forty–one and enrolled...show more content... Great advantages, brings amazing benefits to being an adult learner. The benefit to being an adult leaner is having over 20 years of real–life work and personal experience. Why not, use the knowledge I have learned, and apply it to a college education. Haley Drucker author of "Going Back to College as an Adult: The Benefits" mentions, adults are more focused and understand the importance of an education. It's important to me to gain all the knowledge I can to be a successful counselor. My focus comes from being able to spend quality time with my husband and children. We have to move away from doing things we are use too or what is safe, and do things we enjoy. The benefit of being an adult learner we tend to develop a more cohesive plan to achieve our goals. Antoine de Saint–ExupГ©ry, French Author, said "A goal without a plan is just a wish." I have developed a four step plan to achieve my goals: 1. Get over the notion I was too old to return to school, 2. Find a job which would pay for my education, but still give me the flexibility to be at home, 3. Enroll in a school, which was affordable and can be controlled by my own pace and 4. Build a brand others will appreciate around the world. A great plan brings motivation and inspiration. As adult learners we must be motivated and inspired by other adult learners. I am inspired by my mother, Tecora Rogers the DePaul Graduate and motivated by my husband and three children to succeed. • 3. Importance Of A College Education Importance of a College Education Higher education paves a future and provides opportunities for students to grow. Continuing education is something that is very important and is essential for the growth and development of an individual. By getting an education, a person is able to rise above the rest and is able to achieve so much more in life. College education is a step further and takes a person into realms that can only be understood and appreciated by someone that has earned a college degree. Although, college is expensive, it provides several opportunities for students to grow, and gives them a better chance of obtaining a position in the work force. Higher education systems can be considered very valuable because they provide individuals with life skills that are essential to being successful in life. While studying at a higher education system, one is forced to develop essential time management skills. Allison Acquaviva, a student from Utica College, states that "College gave me a little glimpse into how to be better organized, balance fun and work, and put my priorities in order." Acquaviva, is insisting that while attending college she learned how to better organize her life. With time needed for studying, attending classes, completing homework, relaxation, and doing fun things as well, one needs to manage their time in order to avoid failing out. • 4. The Importance Of College Education Jacartier McGee Education is the single most important factor in the growth of our country. Specifically, higher education paves a future and provides opportunity for students that attend college and gives them a shot at a career. 50 years ago, college was strictly for the elite, high class Americans. Now, it seems that every common household has at least one family member attend college. But with the increasing drop out rate today, students seem less interested in learning at college and their priorities change from their original goal of graduating. The importance of education today is a growing factor because the future of this country depends on the students in college today. College is misunderstood by many incoming freshman. All of...show more content... Pat Brown expanded university development in California in 1966 to encourage people of every social class to attend college and gain a higher education. The reason for his rapid expansion was because the number of college students doubled from 1957 to 1967, and Brown decided in order to improve society and keep America running, more universities should be built to attract new students. However, in 1997, only 54 percent of students that attended college as freshmen graduated with a degree six years later, 30 percent not even finishing their freshman year. Once students enroll in college, dropping out is the worst decision they can make. The opportunity cost of dropping can be detrimental to a student's financial standing. Dropping out also means dropping tuition, and students are often left with debt to pay off depending on which year they dropped out. Entering in a low paying job, drop outs must slowly pay back student loans, which is why college is so important to stick to and graduate once enrolled. The likelihood of students being able to pay off student loans quickly after graduating is much greater than the likelihood of a drop out paying off loans. Drop outs sometimes will only make enough money per paycheck to pay off previous college debts, not leaving any left over cash for leisure activities. Once choosing the decision to attend college, remaining in college is the most important Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It provides millions of opportunities to become educated. In many other countries, education is prohibited, especially to women. It is important to take advantage of these prospects that our country has given us and make the most of our educational experience, and eventually make the most of our careers. The United States provides us with scholarships, financial aid, and community colleges to get around the high cost of education. These benefits are given to us so that more and more educated Americans can contribute to our society. In the near future, I expect to gain many important aspects from my college education. The first and most important thing I hope to gain from this experience is independence. In my opinion, having a successful career of your own is one of the best things you can accomplish. The best matter to never have to worry about, is depending on other people. You never know what will happen to you in the future. You always want something to fall back on something and a college diploma is the perfect answer. The last component that I hope to gain from college is a great life experience that I will never forget. This is only my first semester as a freshman, but I can already predict that college is going to give me all of these gifts. In Alice Walker's Everyday Use, Walker seems to view a college education as a good thing in certain situations. I took charge and accepted that if I want change in my life it's my responsibility to do so. I started to do mindful activities like yoga, reading, writing, and painting to help ease my mind of anxiety. I also became more active regularly through yoga, as well as hiking and swimming for a natural form of pain relief. College life really helped me with my journey to self–love and health. I found that many of my college courses gave me comfort through their material and because I simply enjoyed learning the information. My sociology courses specifically were very relatable to my life at times and helped me not feel so alone in my struggles and worries. This led me to choose my major after months of uncertainty. I want to help others like me through counseling, teaching, guiding, or really in any way that I possibly can. I would also like to do group counseling, for families, couples, groups, and such. The Benefits Of College Education Annie Shahbazyan Ms. Perkins Economics September 1, 2017 There are many choices and paths to choose when the time comes to attend college however, a question to ask is, is it worth it? If decided to attend college, the following decision to be made revolves around an area of study one would like to pursue and the topic of study that will be available for them. Though many can further their education in different ways, a couple of ways consist of attending a four year college (private/ public) or a community college. Not going to college at all is the other alternative, but is it really a smart idea? Most adults have continuously told young students all through high school to attend college. A student's chance of economic success in the future can be risen due to a college education. Judith Scott–Clayton, who is an assistant professor of economics and education at Teachers College at Columbia University states, "Individuals with bachelor's degrees earn about 60 percent more than those with just a high school diploma, who in turn earn about 40 percent more than high school dropouts." In Murray's Op–Ed piece, "Should The Obama Generation Drop Out", he believes a college education is unnecessary. I, however disagree with Murray's notion. College is necessary according to a person's career choice and it's requirements. Throughout my middle and high school years, both my peers and I were strongly encouraged to go to college. I was not only urged by teachers, but my family members also. It is intriguing how closely connected that is after Murray discussed how college is promoted and organized. Growing up, I was taught that college would be the door of opportunity to a guaranteed better life. While college maybe unnecessary for some, it is necessary for others. As for myself, I believe college is necessary in order for me to advance towards my career in Journalism. Upon my high school graduation, I had decided to go straight into the workforce. At the time I preferred to have a job making money instead of going to school losing money. Quickly, I learned that I was still losing money even though I was working. I was working for survival, just to "make ends meet", and in opposite direction of the career I desired. That experience alone encouraged me to pursue my college education even more because I knew I could not make it without it. Growing up my mother always told me "you can't afford a family on a "Dairy Queen" salary. There are multiple pros and cons of a college education such as better a career, with less manual labor, pay, knowledge and career advancement among multiple other opportunities. There are also cons such as the price of college tuition the damage to your credit that comes with unpaid student loans and the amount of time it takes to gain a college degree. I myself think that the benefits of college outweigh the cost. Without a college degree, your options are limited to careers such as restaurant positions, retail positions, warehouse positions, and manual labor positions, "Individuals with only a high school diploma were twice as likely to be unemployed as those holding College degrees." These jobs require simple tasks while, A college degree the tasks are much more complex and your options aren't limited. • 17. The Importance Of A College Education During their high school career, students may begin to question the importance of a college education. They might find themselves asking, "Why is it important to go to college?" The answer is that, more than ever, attending college provides opportunities for graduates which are not as widespread to those who have not received a higher education. For many high school students, being able to immediately generate an income after graduation is an appealing thought. They may also be repelled by the rising cost of tuition, and while it is true that a higher education may be one of the largest expenses you will ever face, the importance of a college education has become quite evident in terms of earning potential within today's economy. Why Should You go to College? One important answer to this question is more opportunity. As opposed to generations of the past, high school graduates today are unable to obtain the number of high–paying jobs that were once available. The U.S. has been transformed from a manufacturing–based economy to an economy based on knowledge, and the importance of a college education today can be compared to that of a high school education forty years ago. It serves as the gateway to better options and more opportunity. There are additional reasons as to why it is important to go to college. When students experience a post secondary education, they have the opportunity to read books and listen to the lectures of top experts in their fields. This stimulation encourages students to think, ask questions, and explore new ideas, which allows for additional growth and development and provides college graduates with an edge in the job market over those who have not experienced a higher education. The importance of a college education is also accentuated because of the opportunity to gain valuable resources during your tenure. The more connections which are collected during your college career, the more options you will have when you begin your job search. Once you have ended your job search and have started your career, however, the importance of a college education has not been exhausted. Having a college degree often provides for greater promotion opportunity. So, why should you go to college? Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Importance Of A College Education It was not until I had my son that I realized just how important it is to have a college education. Despite working more than forty hours a week at a daycare, I was struggling to pay bills and provide for my family. Pawning and selling valuables to make sure we had enough food to eat for the week was a regular occurrence and knowing which days of the month the nearest food bank was open became a regular calendar event. Opportunities outside the daycare were limited due to qualification requirements and jobs that did not require a degree did not pay enough to allow me to afford daycare while I worked. Many times, I would lie awake at night trying to figure out how to make ends meet, wishing I could give my son more, and cursing myself for not getting an education and having a career. Becoming a single mother was what pushed me to go to college at the age of 33. My overall goal is to provide a good life for my son, where he will have everything he needs and more, by working in a field that I believe in and that provides me with the salary I need to support him. The educational goals and objectives that I have set for myself include getting my Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice at UTEP, doing an internship through the Criminal Justice Department, and taking full advantage of the resources that UTEP offers to improve my skills and gain valuable knowledge that will set me up for success as a crime and intelligence analyst for law enforcement, a career that will help me carry Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. As a child and even into adulthood I lacked in caring for my studies. I was never a particularly strong student. Being a poor student was not due to the inability to learn. I graduated from Stow–Munroe Falls High School with a 2.3 GPA. I was in the bottom 20% of my graduating class. I was; however, still accepted into the University of Akron. Unfortunately, I was not mentally mature enough to begin college. I felt as though college was the next logical step, the only issue with that was the lack of direction I had in my academic pursuit. Life was simple, and I could have easily continued potentially wasting my life away. Instead, I took my savings and moved to New York City. I wanted to pursue my dreams in audio and music. I needed a challenge, and North East Ohio was not the place for me to grow or succeed. After moving to New York, I was forced to survive, make a life for myself. I began working as a consultant for Salvatto Sound LLC. I was helping with the design and implementation of acoustic treatments in recording studios. I worked with people I would only ever dream of working with Herbie Hancock, George Lucas, and Andrew W.K. The list of names was growing rapidly. I met successful people, and I learned how to be successful myself. I spent two years out of school working, perfecting my craft. I started a small business, and I began landing jobs in cities across the East Coast. I was proud of the person I was becoming, but there was still an emptiness in my life. While my initial success was empowering, I realized I would not likely be able to sustain this lifestyle. The biggest reason college is not an option for some people because of debt. "As of June 2016, about 42 million Americans owed $1.3 trillion in student debt," (Is a College Education). Also, the debt can cause students to go out and waste their college degrees. For example, when students graduate they live with their parents and also delay relationships. "According to Arthur Chickering's "Seven Vectors" student development theory, "developing mature interpersonal relationships" is one of the seven stages students progress through as they attend college," (Is a College Education). Interpersonal skills students have the opportunity to interact with students, join student clubs and organizations, and take part in discussions. College students learn motivation skills by them getting up and going to class without anyone telling them to, there no one forcing them to attend class.
