Definition Essay: Defining The Concept Of Faith
1. Faith Is An Element Of Faith
Faith is important
Faith is an element that connects us to God as thought his promise was already fulfilled.
Faith is greater than an impression in our minds. It is more than words. Faith is an action which is
demonstrated daily lives through our ability to trust that what God has promised, has already been
fulfilled. Faith can be described as living life fast forward.
Faith sees God's promises coming to fulfillment in advance
It is a confident belief that exceeds human comprehension.
It takes faith to believe that anything will happen. If we don't believe that God will bring us out of a
situation, chances are our situation won't change.
If we don't have faith that God will heal our situation, chances are, He want.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Simply, Faith is having a firm belief in God's word and trusting in His infinite power and plans for
our lives.
Faith is often compared to the mustard seed
Among the smallest seed there is, when planted, the mustard seed grows to become an enormous
plant. It can grow up to 12 to 15 feet in height.
The mustard seed symbolizes potential growth, representing the manifestation of trust and belief in
God from even the smallest particle.
Faith in What We Don't See
The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under
everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle on what we can't see. The act of faith

What is faith and does it really work? People rely on faith for things hoped for, but have not yet
received. Faith is commonly associated with religion. Faith is embracing the unknown. Faith gives
people hope and courage. People encourage others with faith. People get on bending knee and pray
with faith. Faith can be someone's first name. Faith gives help through hard times. Faith is not
tangible. Faith is in people's heart. Faith is hoping for a better world. Faith is touching someone's

Adolescents and adults face difficult challenges. Family, sports, illness, and even death can
question our faith time to time. Faith can give a person courage. "Let your faith be bigger than
your fears." Courage is a feeling inspired by faith. Courage is a spark of hope and belief to
challenge what to overcome. "A leap of faith" is a term used when presented a challenge. To
embrace faith can give evidence and trust that they received what they asked for. Real faith is
more than just believing in something. Real faith includes acting on that faith. To have faith in
yourself and challenge yourself takes real faith. Faith comes into play when we lose a loved one.
Death challenges our faith in many ways. Faith can believe the loved one is now in a better
place. One may question faith after a death. A sudden death can cause loss of faith. Why was he
or she taken? Why were prayers unanswered? Why is the world so cruel? Why did he or she get
sick? Faith can be loss when we may have wished for a different outcome. Faith restores when we
have a prayer answered. For many people it is natural to blame someone when questioning faith.
Courage to have faith again is hard for some

3. Definition Essay: Do We Need To Trust God
We all have at one time or another in our life had that one person we could depend on, tell
everything to and count on. Most of us has had at one time or another had someone to tell our
secrets, backstab us or not be there when we needed them most, causing us to not trust them
anymore. Some people trust objects more than man. All in all, we have trusted something or
someone at one point in our lives and have been let down. We have at one point wanted to give up
on people and things because it did not happen like we thought it should.
Before we can understand and learn why we must trust God, we need to know what is trust. Trust is
the belief that someone or something is reliable, good, honest, effective, etc. A parent has to prove
to a baby that they can be trusted to catch them, to feed them and to protect them. Relationships
are based on love and trust. We trust that money that is given to us is real. We trust that when we
get in our cars and drive to work we know that our brakes will stop us at the red light or stop sign
even though we can't see the brake pads and cylinders. We trust that the chair will hold us up when
we sit down. People put their trust in all kind of things, but not the one that really matters.

4. Essay on Faith and Reason
Faith and reason were two modes of belief that dominated the history of Western Civilization. Both
faith and reason were popularized as tools to understand the universe in Greco–Roman and
Judeo–Christian eras. By conflicting with each other, these two modes of belief sparked a lot of
controversy. Reason or rationality is belief based on concrete evidence and logic. The development
of one's reason relies heavily on observation and questioning. Greco–Roman philosophers believed in
the power of the human mind to understand the world. So in order to find ultimate truth,
Greco–Roman philosophers dedicated their lives to perfecting their reasoning skills and encouraged
those around them to do the same. Contradictory to reason, faith is the...show more content...
Socrates' journey conveys an important aspect of living a life in accordance with reason:
questioning. Questioning is a key aspect of reasoning because by doing so, one is challenging
something that is commonly accepted. Socrates was against self–proclaimed wisdom. Though
accused of corrupting the youth, Socrates wanted to dispel any misinterpretation of his intentions.
Socrates wanted to emphasize the importance of questioning to acquire knowledge. Another example
of reason in the Greco–Roman culture is Seneca's Letters to Lucilius. In this letter, Seneca argued
that the only way to live a truly happy life was through having perfect reason. "Now if we agreed
on this point, it is natural that we shall be agreed on the following also–namely, that the happy life
depends upon this and this alone: our attainment of perfect reason." Letters to Lucilius demonstrates
Greeks' reliance on reason as a means to achieve true happiness. Not only was reason important to
the Greeks because it helped them achieve happiness, but it was also important because it was a
quality that made them superior to animals. In Epictetus' Discourses, Epictetus supports rationality
for that very reason:
When we act gluttonously, lewdly, rashly, sordidly, inconsiderately, into what are we sunk? Into
cattle. What have we destroyed? The rational being. When we behave contentiously, injuriously,
passionately, and violently, into what have we

5. Definition Essay: What Is Faith?
What is faith? Faith can be many different things based on different types of people perspective.
Some people say it's about trust while others say it has to do with religion. When it comes to
trusting people faith is about believing in someone even if you may not have proof they are correct.
However faith ties in with religion in ways that religious people must have faith or trust in their
leaders or the people they look up to.
Now who needs faith you may ask. Personally, I think everyone needs faith, maybe at one point in
their life or multiple points. Faith can be a good or bad thing because having faith can allow us to
take risks. However, I also think there are certain people who may need it more than others. For

6. Paper On Faith
The topic which I have selected is faith. Faith is a complex term that we use casually in the Latter
Day Saint community. Yes, it is simple, but it has a much more profound meaning than just
believing. It is believing in the Son of God, and that he will deliver you from your trials and
tribulations. I will describe to you about my findings on faith. I wanted to focus on four major
effects and doctrine of faith, they are how to gain faith, the blessings that come from faith, doubt
robs faith, and the effects of faith in my life.
Faith is not a physical object which one can obtain through force. If you are going to obtain faith, it
must be through your own efforts. Many have fallen into the trap of what I like to call "I'll believe

To live God's commandments we must trust God. This is a true doctrine. If we are to see and
receive the blessings of following his commandments, then we must be obedient. This matter was
spoken on in the Doctrine and Covenants " And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by
obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.(D&C:130:21)" God blesses us through our
obedience, and I view obedience and faith in the same division. One should not be done without
the other. Of course, there are exceptions, but I don't want to focus on those in the current instant.
The Lord blesses us according to our obedience to his commandments, equally important is the
faith we display as we obey. Many times we don't obey a commandment because we don't
understand why it is there. If we choose not to follow it, then we are lacking the faith to trust God
that his word is true. For example, God has given the commandment that we are to pay one–tenth
that he has given us, to him. If we are disobedient, then we lack the faith in the blessings that God
promises us. I personally have seen the blessing from paying my tithing, which through my faith, I
was blessed for. My faith in tithing has kept me fed, has brought the spirit into my life, and most
importantly, I have seen God's hand sustain me with all my needs. Faith in and obedience to God's
commandments brings both temporal and spiritual

7. Differences Between Faith And Belief
All over the world, people have different understandings of faith. The difference in faith is based
ones level of trust beyond the level or reason and logic. Faith from an outsider looking in is the
irrational other end of having belief. It's to express the complete trust in something without having
the absolute knowledge. Belief in situations or the expectation of an outcome that may seem
impossible or so far out of reach is actually the action of having faith because they had believed.
Therefore, faith can't be expressed without having belief while ignoring logic and reasoning.
There are differences in faith and belief, we express these differences in our everyday lives.
However the two does interrelate. Beliefs are the mindset in which a person strongly believes to be
true or the case. It's the likeliness that something is true, following all the evidence that may back up
your belief. Whereas, faith strays away from the evidence of the truth. Examples of faith may be
when someone wakes up and head to work at their scheduled times. Without thinking, without calling
in to make sure their job was still there, they knew without a shadow of a doubt they'd be working,
they knew their job would still be standing. It's expressed when passengers aboard a plane expects
the absolute safety of the flight, without knowing the exact credibility of their pilot; without
knowing the how kept up the plane has been up to the flight. Without knowing the answers to any of
those questions

DEFINITION ESSAY FOR FAITH
My definition of faith is believing and trusting in the word of God.
I am a true believer in faith and prayers because my life is spent on faith. Each time I wake up or lay
down, I pray and ask the Lord to watch over my kids and all my loved ones. Anytime something
happens bad, the outcome is good. This is the work of God because he calls the shots of my life. He
is in total control of life.

9. Essay on The Nature of Faith
In many aspects of our lives, the use of faith as a basis for knowledge can be found. Whether it is
faith in the advice of your teacher, faith in a God or faith in a scientific theory, it is present. But
what is faith? A definition of faith in a theory of knowledge context is the confident belief or trust
in a knowledge claim by a knower, without the knower having conclusive evidence. This is
because if a knowledge claim is backed up by evidence, then we would use reason rather than
faith as a basis for knowledge . If we define knowledge as 'justified true belief', it can be seen that
faith, being without justification, can never fulfill this definition, and so cannot be used as a reliable
basis for knowledge. However, the question arises,...show more content...
One strength of faith as a basis for knowledge in religion is that faith allows a knower to justify
their religious beliefs, despite necessarily having definitive and empirical proof. Using the
definition of knowledge as "justified true belief", one can see that in order for any religious
knowledge claim to accepted, it must be somehow justified. However, here arises a problem for
religious knowledge claims. Any claim in the realm of spirituality is inherently said to be beyond
the physical world and empirical testing, and so attempting to do so will result in neither the
proving nor the disproving of any such claim. However, as faith can exist without such empirical
justification, it can used by the knower to justify the claim. But if we were to examine this use of
faith as a basis for knowledge from the perspective of the natural sciences, one might scoff at the
notion of accepting or rejecting a knowledge claim simply because it is beyond our understanding,
when science aims to explain what we do not understand. The nature of faith, as being
self–substantiated without justification, means that any individual knower can have faith in any
given knowledge claim, despite a lack of justification in said claim. This brings about one of the
weaknesses of faith as a basis for knowledge. If a knowledge claim is justified by faith, what does
this mean for other knowledge claims which are conflicting,

From the first moment I could remember, I was taught to have faith in what I could not see. I

in a God that cannot be seen with the naked eye was something that I just accepted. As I have
grown older, I have realized that there is a whole lot more to faith than just simply stating that
something has an existence. A general definition of faith is thetrust that one has in a person, place,

11. Faith And Belief Of Faith Essay
What is faith? Faith can be described in many ways, based on the belief someone has for God.
The difficult part when wanting to talk about explaining faith and what we think God brings to our
life, is based on what God brought to this world for each of us specifically. Faith can be
challenging in an individual's life, because for some they are never sure where they stand with the
word "faith". From christianity.about.com, faith was defined as belief with strong conviction; firm
belief in something for which there may be no tangible proof; complete trust, confidence,
reliance or devotion. Faith is the opposite of doubt. I will prove in this paper that faith is not only
about what was defined, but more about what one believes and how one acts on their own faith.
There is a lot more to faith than just a strong belief. I would argue that belief of faith consists of
three key components; commitment, sacrifice, and belief. Before I explain more about
commitment, sacrifice, and belief, I want to see what Christian faith is, and from where it comes,
how it may be nurtured, and lastly, how can it impact someone's everyday life. Two versus from 1
John really stand out to me when it comes to Christian faith. In 1 John 5:5 it says, "Who is it that
overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God." Therefore, stating for

You can not have religion without faith. George W. Forell states that "faith is universal," (Forell 1).
By this Forell is saying that everyone has some sort of belief, they believe in something or
somebody. Forell is not limiting this belief to God, or gods for that matter, he simply means that all
humans believe in something– money, or education, or the general goodness of mankind. Forell goes
on to also describe Christian faith; "Classical Protestantism asserts that God wants fellowship with
man and that if we trust completely in Jesus Christ and his work we will have communion with God.
This complete and utter trust in Jesus Christ is faith," (Forell 19). I tend to side with George W.
Forell and his explanation of Christian faith.
Christian faith has an implication of love. It is strictly a personal act. The "agape" that exists
between the lord and all of his creations is manifested into each religion's faith. This agape is the
respect, connection, and intellectual virtue that exist between men and women and their belief in
God. Faith can also be thought of as a perception. It is not a conclusion or a proof; "it is not an
explanation of the world, an argument from causality, an apologetic of creation," (Chenu 2). Faith is

Faith is a concept used throughout all aspects of life, in ways of life and spiritual growth. Faith is
considering a way to see things without the natural appearance of it. Faith is an essential tool used
in everyday life. Consider the process of using faith in order to gain growth in life and spirituality.
Faith is a belief that is assured by a conviction that the thing hope (expected) for in the present, will
be manifested in the future.
In order to have faith, one must accept the truth of God's word through knowledge and
understanding. Without faith it is impossible to please God, Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV 1996).In

Faith and hope (expectation) are unchangeable, they go hand and hand. Therefore, if one build their
faith on emotion their hope (expectation) would be inconsistent. An inconsistent faith would be
considered doubt, anything that doubts stops expecting. When one stops expecting then he or she is
being controlled by their emotions, not by the assurance and conviction of their belief. Having the
understanding of faith now produces the assurance to know things will work out. Faith is not
measured by material gain nor by assumption. Faith is built on the cornerstone of something or
someone, which is a belief. There are many different areas that people believe in within the modern
day. For example people have faith in restaurants cooks and servers when it comes to preparing their
meals.
Also people have faith that when they press the brakes on their car it will stop. So in essence
faith is simply a belief in something or someone. However, living faith is produced within the
knowledge of God's word. Having a spiritual relationship with God will demonstrated the true
understanding of faith. This particular faith is only displayed when one hear and gladly receive the
Word of God and apply biblical principles to their life. Faith in God Word will position you to be

14. Faith Definition Essay
The dictionary definition of faith is "complete trust or confidence in someone or something". Now
how many of us people who consider ourselves Christians can say we have complete trust in God.
Practically no one, so by that definition the approximate 2.1 billion people in the world who identify
as Christian can't be true Christians because it's human nature to rely on our own self rather than
anyone else.
But who am I to say who or what a true Christian is. Who am I to measure your relation with God. I
am not you, I'm not in your mind, and I'm certainly not God. So what I mean by a true Christian, is
being a clone of Christ, which is the goal but unfortunately, very few actually reach it.
You can't compare your walk with God to anyone else's.

Going out on a limb is like the perfect metaphor for faith with all the basic concepts included: trust,
belief, and commitment. Faith is the absolute belief in someone or something. Friendship, a
religious belief, or just your everyday court trial can show some sense of what faith really is. What
faith isn't, however, is mistrust or doubt. Once one of these attributes enters your friendship or the
way you feel about your religion, it takes time to get it straightened out again. Faith is going out on a
limb and fully trusting in whatever it is you have faith in.

What is religion? Each person's definition of religion is different. Each person's faith is different.
This is a question that has been asked for centuries, and regardless of the answer given there is no
right or wrong answer. Religion can be defined as a group of people who have shared beliefs who
feel their life has purpose or meaning. This feeling or belief that their life has meaning can come
from outside of themselves, as well as within. Taking this one step further, these shared beliefs put
into action in the form of worship, can be easily identified because they happen regularly. It can be

is no exact definition, but it is all of what a religion cannot explain, it is all that the human mind
cannot grasp, it is the certain "higher power" that religion offers. Of these six features, there are
three that are present in most all religions, they are: authority, tradition, and mystery. Authority,
tradition, and mystery further explore and define religion when looking specifically at Primal

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints places Faith as the first Principle of the gospel.
How is faith defined and taught?
In Hebrews 11: 1 we read "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not

from the Book of Mormon says "faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye

believe that the world is to end. I must now act in a way that demonstrates this belief. No matter
what evidence is provided, rational reasoning, persuasion or whatever, doesn't matter. "Because the

20. Definition Essay: Defining The Concept Of Faith
The concept of faith is one that most people are aware of, though they may not be able to define it.
The definition of faith is to have a complete trust in something or someone. In most people's cases,
the something or someone is God. To have faith, you must first hear about the thing that you want to
have faith in. The thing can't be seen; otherwise, you just believe without faith. Then you must trust
that the thing exists and that what is said about it is true. Faith is a concept that has been around
since the creation of the world before the world fell into sin. Adam had faith in God, and God gave
him authority over Earth. He later gives up this authority to Satan. Faith is an attribute that everyone
needs to have and is one of the most important concepts that a person can know. Faith involves
trusting an individual or thing so much that you would blinding walk according to their will. Faith
can be compared to trust falling. One person keeps their back to the other while falling backward

No. If you believe in God, then you trust that he is there. The two go hand in hand, and when both

Hebrews even has a chapter that describes the faith of others who lived in the past. Faith is
demonstrated by many people throughout the Bible. Abraham has faith when he follows where
God wants him to go, not knowing where it is or when he'll get there. He has faith when God tells
