5. Global Awareness Week
If you answered the last 3 questions correctly
then you are on your way to becoming . . .
“Globally Aware”!
If not – then listen up!
6. Global Awareness Week
It’s natural to feel that we are a majority of the
world’s population as the U.S. is such a
dominant world power. The U.S. is only 4.5% of
the world’s population1 – we make up less than
1/20th of the people on this planet.
However…
7. Global Awareness Week
• FACT: We are less than 1/20th of the world’s
population yet we consume 20% of the world’s
energy2
• FACT: Our country’s wealth is larger than the
next three largest countries combined3
• FACT: 80% of the world’s population lives on less
than $10 a day4
Compared to the rest of the world…
WE ARE THE 99% 1%!
8. Global Awareness Week
Did you catch that? 80% of the world’s
population lives on less than $10 a day! The
poorest of the poor 1.4 billion (20%) survive on
less than $1.25/day5
How much do you think the
average American lives on each day6?
$55
10. COVE Alliance
(Children’s Outreach and Vocational Education)
Through COVE Alliance, Vernon Hills High School has raised over
$43,000 to build and fund a primary school building in
Kapeeka, Uganda. We have given over 100 children an education
so far and hope to continue for 100’s more.

But we can do so much more . . .
At our school, there are two dormitories with 40 children living
in each. Your donations this week will help build another
dormitory so that they will have a cleaner and larger space to
live and learn in.

12. Global Awareness Week
For one week, if every student at
VHHS donates $1 out of the $55
he/she uses a day,
what difference would that make?
13. Global Awareness Week
We would drink one less soda per day . . .
or we would buy one less song on iTunes per day . . .
or we would drive five fewer miles per day . . .
14. COVE Alliance
But to our students in Uganda, that $1 per day means
so much more. It means a greatly improved life in
terms of food, shelter, and education.
Last summer, a group from VHHS went to
Kapeeka, Uganda to see the school that WE donated in
2009. The group was greeted by the students in their
Blue & Silver Cougar uniforms, in front of their new
school, singing,
“We love love love love you.”
We really have made a difference!
16. Global Awareness Week
Can you spare $1 per day over the next five
days to continue to fund our school in Uganda?
Today begins “Global Awareness Week” at
VHHS. As you read the posters displayed
throughout the school be aware of our vast
wealth compared to the majority of others.
Making this small donation is one way to make
a difference.
