the WORLD right now?
UNSTOPPABLE CLIMATE CHANGE
CLIMATE CHANGE is the long-term changes in climate & weather
patterns, including average temperature and precipitation. These climate
shifts may be natural or caused by human actions

TITLE: Climate Change Explained
What proof do we have that
climate change is
happening?
✓ Temperatures are rising
world-wide due to
greenhouse gases trapping
more heat in the atmosphere
✓ Glaciers are melting & Sea
levels are rising
✓ Extreme rainfall and flooding
events (24-hr and 7-day) are
more frequent
This map shows the five-year average
variation of global surface temperatures
from 1884 to 2012. Dark blue indicates

TITLE: Explaining Carbon Neutrality
The Fundamentals of Carbon Neutral
Neutrality Through Carbon Cycle Process
The carbon cycle is nature's way of reusing carbon atoms,
which travel from the atmosphere into organisms in the Earth
and then back into the atmosphere.
carbon is stored in rocks, ocean, atmosphere, and in living
organisms. These are the reservoirs or carbon sinks.
Carbon is released back into the atmosphere when organisms
die, fossil fuels are burned, human and animals' respiration
and through a variety of other mechanisms

What Perodua has done to help
ADDRESS & RESOLVE THIS
GLOBAL ISSUE?
NEW VEHICLE ZERO CO2 EMISSIONS
As the world moves to curtail temperature increase, Perodua sees this
situation as both a risk and an opportunity and will strive to reduce
average CO2 emissions per vehicle during driving by 90 percent
compared to 2010 levels by 2050.
Perodua aim to achieve this goal by promoting the development of next-
generation vehicles with low or zero carbon emissions, including
Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV), plug-in hybrid electric
(PHEV) and making our conventionally powered models
more fuel-efficient.
Promoting the Development
and Widespread Use of
Electrified Vehicles
 Perodua set a target sales of 2 millions
EEV cars or more by 2025 and will
continue working toward the widespread
use of EEV vehicles.
 As of March 2020, the CO2 emissions
reduction effects from the introduction of
EEV vehicles have reached tremendous
effect towards our nation eco-system
LIFE CYCLE ZERO CO2 EMISSIONS
To achieve the objectives of our Life Cycle Zero CO2 Emissions
Challenge we are working on more environmentally-friendly vehicle
designs that use raw materials with lower amounts of carbon. Toyota
are making greater use of bio-materials from renewable sources
while making our vehicles easier to dismantle and recycle.

Measures to Achieve Zero
CO2 Emissions During
Vehicle Manufacturing
 Perodua is reducing CO2 emissions with
the aim of achieving zero CO2
emissions at global plants by 2050.
There is a tendency, however, for CO2
emissions to increase during the
manufacturing of our emission friendly
cars
 To address this issue, in 2019 we
introduced electric power generated
100 percent from renewable
electricity on production lines. As a
result, CO2 emissions during
production have been drastically
reduced.

Renewable Electricity
Introduction Rate at
PMSB/PGMSB
 CO2 emissions reduction is also
being promoted at sites other than
plants, with 100 percent renewable
electricity used at all certain
sections of manufacturing plant
PLANT ZERO CO2 EMISSIONS
CO2 emissions are not only generated when cars are driven, but also when
they are manufactured in our factories. This challenge includes a strategy
to achieve zero CO2 emissions in our manufacturing plants by focusing on
improving the technologies we use and switching to alternative power
sources.
To achieve this, Perodua is undertaking the introduction of innovative
technologies and daily kaizen as well as the introduction of renewable
energy and utilization of replacement energy as well.
Perodua had started to introduce an innovative process called karakuri
that does not consume any energy source at all.
In addition, we will effectively utilize renewable energy such as solar
power and wind power along with other alternative energy, and we are
committed to continuing working hand in hand with stakeholders to build
the necessary social infrastructure to support the widespread use of these
energy sources.
Karakuri Process
Reducing CO2 Emissions
in Production Activities
 We undertook energy-saving
activities (internal ESCO activities)
and yokoten* of best practices.
Also, the introduction of innovative
technologies was expanded with a
focus on painting processes and
energy-saving was promoted by
adopting steamless and airless
processes and shifting to LED
lighting.
 As a result, we reduced global CO2
emissions (total) to 5.68 million
tons (down 8.9 percent compared
to 2013 levels).

CLIMATE CHANGE
An informal definition that could be used to
discuss the idea:
Basically, to make something that could be

Non-EEV Vehicle
Mitigation Strategy 1: Transportation Efficiency
Full EEV Vehicle
A car that gets 18-20 km/l releases 1 ton of carbon into the air for every 15,000
kilometers of driving. In short, fuel-efficient cars get more km per liter (KM/l)
Increasing the fuel efficiency of cars will reduce the amount of CO2 emitted into the
atmosphere
At Perodua we are aiming to produce EEV car for all our models and cementing our
status as the country’s No. 1 EEV company.
WHAT IS EEV CAR?
The 2014 National Automotive Policy defines EEV by the minimum
fuel efficiency requirement for car segments defined by curb weight

Providing electricity, generating power, and heat for buildings produces high levels of
CO2 emission. Reducing heating and energy use would reduce the amount of CO2
Insulating buildings, using alternative energy sources, and solar water heating are
ways to reduce emissions.
And it’s not just the products. The Perodua Global Manufacturing S/B facility, which
builds the Axia and Bezza, is also Malaysia’s first EEV-certified plant

Normal Electricity Consumption
Mitigation Strategy 3: Efficient Electricity Usage
Efficient Electricity Consumption
25% of the world’s carbon emissions come from the production of electricity at
plants, buildings, houses & business premise
Since nearly 50% of electricity comes from heating combustion, improving electrical
efficiency will significantly reduce carbon emission.
To do this requires alternative ways of using electricity on daily basis especially by
employees at working level

Overview of Carbon Neutral
DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN
INITIATIVES
Automobiles have a sizable environmental load in every stage of
their lifecycles, from materials production to disposal of end-of-
life vehicles. However, their environmental load is greatest when
they are being driven.
Between 70 and 80% of the CO2, the cause of global warming, is
generated in the driving phase.
For this reason, beginning with the creation of small-vehicles,
Daihatsu is actively engaged both in improving fuel efficiency
(reducing CO2) while driving and in reducing the amount of air
pollutants in exhaust gases.
PROMOTING
ENVIRONMENTAL
MANAGEMENT
AT THE
DEVELOPMENT
STAGE FOR NEW
MODELS
Daihatsu introduced Eco-Vehicle Assessment System in 2006; in its
development activities, the company specifies environmental goals
in six different fields which are Fuel Efficiency, Exhaust Gases,
Noise, Recyclability, Environmentally Hazardous Substances, and
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) values.
Through its LCAs, Daihatsu evaluates and seeks to reduce both
energy use & CO2 and other emissions that impact on the
environment in every stage of its vehicle lifecycles, from materials
production, to vehicle production, driving, and disposal of end-of-
life vehicles.
INITIATIVES FOR
LOW-
CONCENTRATION
EXHAUST GASES
Most automobiles are fueled by gasoline; for this reason, they emit a
range of environmentally loads substances that cause air pollution,
including carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides.
Japan introduced its first exhaust gas regulations in 1966, and they
have become increasingly rigorous ever since; today, Japan boasts the
world’s most stringent exhaust gas regulations, and this has resulted in
a steady reduction of nitrogen oxides and other air pollutants.
Daihatsu is engaged for clean emission by setting itself target values
that are more rigorous than either domestic emission regulations and
those set the exhaust gas regulations adopted by Japan Automobile
Manufacturers Association, Inc., to which it is affiliated.
Japan is transitioning from the use of the Japan-specific JC08 standard
to measure exhaust emissions and fuel efficiency to the use of the
global (Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure) WLTP
standard. Daihatsu is actively working to ensure its vehicles return
outstanding results under the WLTP standards.
OVERSEAS ROLL
OUT OF FUEL-
EFFICIENT
VEHICLES
In Indonesia, one of Daihatsu’s core overseas markets,
the government has launched the Low-Cost Green Car
(LCGC) initiative. To cater to LCGC, we made use of
its expertise in e:S technologies to launch two fuel-
efficient and affordable vehicles: the Ayla compact
car, in September 2013; and the Sigra seven-seater
multi-purpose passenger vehicle, in August 2016.

INITIATIVES AT DAIHATSU
PLANTS AND OFFICES
Daihatsu has strongly promoted activities aimed at reducing
CO2 emissions. At its production sites and offices worldwide,
the company has engaged both in improving energy efficiency
and in eliminating excess.
Daihatsu will continue its efforts to achieve environmentally
friendly plants that emit no CO2.
SWITCHING TO
ENERGY-SAVING
PLANTS
Transition to LED lighting
In order to reduce energy consumption, Daihatsu is
transitioning all its lighting—including mercury lamps and
fluorescent lights at its plants, as well as its office lighting—to
LED lighting.
PROMOTING SSC
AT ITS
PRODUCTION
LINES
In order to realize the affordable manufacturing technologies,
it has developed through its K-cars [mini vehicles], Daihatsu
has carried out production line optimizations based on the
SSC (Simple, Slim, Compact) concept. It has led to a
significant reductions in energy consumption.
SIMPLIFYING
BODY-CARRYING
DEVICES IN THE
WELDING
PROCESS
Daihatsu has significantly reduced the energy
required to drive the pallets used to carry and fix the
positions of bodies in the welding process by
simplifying and lightening them.
INTRODUCTION
OF RENEWABLE
ENERGIES
As well as saving energy through eliminating waste
during the production process, Daihatsu will also
actively seek to expand its introducing renewable
energies.
OFFICE-BASED
INITIATIVES
In addition to its production plants, Daihatsu’s Head
Office and technology division are also implementing
energy-saving measures.
We take care to carry out everyday energy-saving
measures such as appropriately setting air
conditioning temperatures and switching off unused
lighting; we have also transitioned from the use of
fluorescent to LED lighting, introduced sensor-based
on/off lighting controls, and are engaged in solar
power generation initiatives as well.
LOGISTICS INITIATIVES
Daihatsu uses various modes of transport for
transporting completed vehicles and supplying and
procuring materials and parts. These include ships,
railroads, trucks, and airplanes.
We works to reduce the amount of CO2 it emits during
the logistics process, by increasing the volume of freight
it can transport at once—such as by improving vehicle
loading capacities and freight densities—and by shifting
to modes of transport with lower CO2 emissions.
SHIFT TO MORE
ENVIRONMENTALLY
FRIENDLY MODES
OF TRANSPORT
Shipping transport
We transports by ship approximately 70% of all its
freight volumes related to the procurement and
supply of complete vehicles, materials, and parts.
Since it enables large volumes of vehicles to be
transported at one time, marine transport is an
efficient and environmentally friendly mode of
transport that contributes to reductions in CO2
emissions.
Going forward, Daihatsu intends to consider how to
expand the scope of its shipping transport to include
smaller ports.
SHIFT TO MORE
ENVIRONMENTALLY
FRIENDLY MODES
OF TRANSPORT
Railroad transport
Daihatsu’s core product is the mini vehicle, which
measures 3.4 meters in length; it is therefore small enough
to fit into a 12-foot (3.6 meter) railroad container. Taking
advantage of the small vehicles, in 1996 the company
began transporting these products between Kyoto Freight
Station (Umekoji) and Niigata Freight Terminal Station.
SHIFT TO MORE
ENVIRONMENTALLY
FRIENDLY MODES
OF TRANSPORT
Railroad transport
Daihatsu stopped using special-purpose container pallets in
2018, and thereafter steadily began to expand its use of
railroad transport: from Kitakyushu Freight Terminal Station to
Toyama Freight Station in February 2018; from Kitakyushu
Freight Terminal Station to Minami-matsumoto Freight Station
in January 2019; and from Fukuoka Freight Terminal Station to
Niigata Freight Terminal Station in December 2019.
SHIFT TO MORE
ENVIRONMENTALLY
FRIENDLY MODES
OF TRANSPORT
Truck transportation
Knock Down parts transportation
Regarding knock down parts sent from Japan to its
overseas bases, Daihatsu is working to reduce CO2
emissions by improving freight density, reviewing its
container transport operations, and optimizing its
logistics activities.
SHIFT TO MORE
ENVIRONMENTALLY
FRIENDLY MODES
OF TRANSPORT
Truck transportation
Transportation of complete vehicles
In 2019, Japanese land transport regulations were relaxed, with the
maximum permitted vehicle length extended to 18 meters or less,
including an overhang of 1 meter or less; where previously only six mini
vehicles could be transported at once, under the new regulations eight
mini vehicles can be transported at once, leading to more efficient
transportation and a corresponding reduction in logistics-related CO2
emissions.

PERODUA AWARENESS PROGRAM - Carbon Neutral V2.pdf

  • 2. OUR LEARNING JOURNEY FOR TODAY 01 PROGRAM INTRODUCTION 02 PERODUA CARBON NEUTRAL INITIATIVES 03 DMC CARBON NEUTRAL INITIATIVES 04 LEARNING & PROGRAM SUMMARY By: Hilmee Ismail
  • 3. Our learning outcome To deepen the impact of Carbon Neutrality (current & future consequences) To understand current issues and situations involving carbon neutrality 3 4 1 2 To learn how to achieved Carbon Neutrality at Perodua By: Hilmee Ismail To know right methods in ensuring the goal of carbon neutrality is achieved
  • 4. Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd (PSSB) Learning & Development Division Introduction Program By: Hilmee Ismail
  • 5. Before that, let's discuss… What is happening in the WORLD right now?
  • 6. UNSTOPPABLE CLIMATE CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE is the long-term changes in climate & weather patterns, including average temperature and precipitation. These climate shifts may be natural or caused by human actions
  • 8. What proof do we have that climate change is happening? ✓ Temperatures are rising world-wide due to greenhouse gases trapping more heat in the atmosphere ✓ Glaciers are melting & Sea levels are rising ✓ Extreme rainfall and flooding events (24-hr and 7-day) are more frequent
  • 9. This map shows the five-year average variation of global surface temperatures from 1884 to 2012. Dark blue indicates areas cooler than average. Dark red indicates areas warmer than average. Increase in the Earth’s average temperature (over land & sea levels)
  • 10. Sea levels world-wide are rising drastically Global temperature increasing at rapid rate each year Glaciers are melting Arctic sea ice is decreasing
  • 11. Extreme Rainfall & Flooding Events Warmer oceans increase the amount of water that evaporates into the air. When more air moves over land or converges into a storm system, it can produce more intense rainfall
  • 12. Video 2 TITLE: Causes & Effects of Climate Change
  • 13. What is the main driver of climate change and all the disasters that we are currently facing???...
  • 14. The main driver of climate change is the greenhouse effect... Some gases in the Earth's atmosphere act a bit like the glass in a greenhouse… Trapping the sun's heat and stopping it from leaking back into space and causing global warming…
  • 15.
  • 16. THE REALITY IS…. “THE WORLD IS SICK & DYING” By: Hilmee Ismail
  • 17. “The key question is…How to Solve this Critical Global Issue?...The answer to this mess is…” CARBON NEUTRALITY
  • 19. The Fundamentals of Carbon Neutral Neutrality Through Carbon Cycle Process The carbon cycle is nature's way of reusing carbon atoms, which travel from the atmosphere into organisms in the Earth and then back into the atmosphere. carbon is stored in rocks, ocean, atmosphere, and in living organisms. These are the reservoirs or carbon sinks. Carbon is released back into the atmosphere when organisms die, fossil fuels are burned, human and animals' respiration and through a variety of other mechanisms By: Hilmee Ismail
  • 20. Carbon Neutral 100 Tonnes of Emissions 50 Tonnes of Offsets Carbon Neutrality 50 Tonnes of Reductions • Carbon neutrality means having a balance between emitting carbon and absorbing carbon from the atmosphere in carbon sinks. By: Hilmee Ismail
  • 21. To Achieve Carbon Neutrality Reduce Carbon Emission Carbon Offsetting Avoid Carbon Emission Carbon Neutrality can be achieve using 3 steps By: Hilmee Ismail
  • 22. Tips to Reduce and Avoid Emission  Using public transport while travelling  Use bicycle for moving around  Encourage on sharing vehicles among employees  Double side printing of paper  Reuse and Recycle of materials  Support clean energy such as Solar Power  Using Hybrid vehicle  Use more locally available items to reduce emission by courier  Power Saving initiatives like using energy saving bulbs or LED.
  • 23. Video 3 TITLE: Creating the World’s First Carbon Neutral Capital
  • 24. Carbon Offsetting Most of the emission cannot be avoided or reduce due to organisations necessary operations. Those emissions shall be considered for offsetting. Carbon Offsetting Tips  Investing in development of renewable sources of power generation.  Investing in Emission Reduction Projects.  Investing in various reforestation programs.  Participating or volunteering in tree plantation activities. By: Hilmee Ismail
  • 25. Malaysia committed to becoming carbon neutral nation by 2050  Malaysia is committed to its target of becoming a carbon-neutral nation by as early as 2050, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.  economic instruments such as carbon tax will be introduced to support this effort.  The government will no longer build new coal- fired power plants . Cleaner electricity generation will be implemented through the operation of several gas power plants to replace coal power plants.
  • 26. Malaysia committed to becoming carbon neutral nation by 2050…Cont.  Several initiatives will be undertaken, such as reducing hydrocarbon flaring and venting, capturing methane emissions and optimising production and operations.  Other measures include increasing the efficacy in providing low-carbon energy and solutions such as natural gas and renewable energy, developing low and zero carbon fuels, products and solutions, and investing in nature-based solutions by preserving and restoring the capacity of forest ecosystems to act as carbon sinks.
  • 27. How can we reduce carbon emissions? ACTIVITY: Work in pairs to talk about ways in which we could reduce (mitigate) carbon emissions in the following areas. ✓ Transportation & logistic ✓ Heating and Cooling Buildings ✓ Industry Carbon Output / waste management ✓ Electricity Usage By: Hilmee Ismail
  • 28. Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd (PSSB) Learning & Development Division Initiatives Perodua Carbon Neutral By: Hilmee Ismail
  • 29. How Global Warming Works Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas)
  • 30. 1928 2000 The South Cascade glacier retreated dramatically in the 20th century Courtesy of the USGS glacier group Have we changed the climate? Glaciers are retreating all over the world
  • 31. What are the major cause of global warming? Manufacturing Burning fossil fuels to produce energy for making things Electricity Generate power from burning fossil fuels, coal and natural gas Transportation Pollution from car emission Natural Resource Cutting down forest
  • 32. “Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, human influence on the climate system is clear …” - The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Jan, 2020, Press Release
  • 33. What Perodua has done to help ADDRESS & RESOLVE THIS GLOBAL ISSUE?
  • 34. NEW VEHICLE ZERO CO2 EMISSIONS As the world moves to curtail temperature increase, Perodua sees this situation as both a risk and an opportunity and will strive to reduce average CO2 emissions per vehicle during driving by 90 percent compared to 2010 levels by 2050. Perodua aim to achieve this goal by promoting the development of next- generation vehicles with low or zero carbon emissions, including Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV), plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) and making our conventionally powered models more fuel-efficient.
  • 35. Promoting the Development and Widespread Use of Electrified Vehicles  Perodua set a target sales of 2 millions EEV cars or more by 2025 and will continue working toward the widespread use of EEV vehicles.  As of March 2020, the CO2 emissions reduction effects from the introduction of EEV vehicles have reached tremendous effect towards our nation eco-system
  • 36.
  • 37. LIFE CYCLE ZERO CO2 EMISSIONS To achieve the objectives of our Life Cycle Zero CO2 Emissions Challenge we are working on more environmentally-friendly vehicle designs that use raw materials with lower amounts of carbon. Toyota are making greater use of bio-materials from renewable sources while making our vehicles easier to dismantle and recycle. Vehicle Manufacturing Materials Manufacturing Parts Manufacturing Disposal & Recycling Logistics Perodua vehicles are subject to the cycle CO2 assessment
  • 38. Measures to Achieve Zero CO2 Emissions During Vehicle Manufacturing  Perodua is reducing CO2 emissions with the aim of achieving zero CO2 emissions at global plants by 2050. There is a tendency, however, for CO2 emissions to increase during the manufacturing of our emission friendly cars  To address this issue, in 2019 we introduced electric power generated 100 percent from renewable electricity on production lines. As a result, CO2 emissions during production have been drastically reduced.
  • 39. Video 4 TITLE: Case Study – Carbon Neutral Green Factory
  • 40. Achieving 100 Percent Renewable Electricity Introduction Rate at PMSB/PGMSB  CO2 emissions reduction is also being promoted at sites other than plants, with 100 percent renewable electricity used at all certain sections of manufacturing plant
  • 41.
  • 42. PLANT ZERO CO2 EMISSIONS CO2 emissions are not only generated when cars are driven, but also when they are manufactured in our factories. This challenge includes a strategy to achieve zero CO2 emissions in our manufacturing plants by focusing on improving the technologies we use and switching to alternative power sources. To achieve this, Perodua is undertaking the introduction of innovative technologies and daily kaizen as well as the introduction of renewable energy and utilization of replacement energy as well. Perodua had started to introduce an innovative process called karakuri that does not consume any energy source at all. In addition, we will effectively utilize renewable energy such as solar power and wind power along with other alternative energy, and we are committed to continuing working hand in hand with stakeholders to build the necessary social infrastructure to support the widespread use of these energy sources.

  • 56. DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN INITIATIVES Automobiles have a sizable environmental load in every stage of their lifecycles, from materials production to disposal of end-of- life vehicles. However, their environmental load is greatest when they are being driven. Between 70 and 80% of the CO2, the cause of global warming, is generated in the driving phase. For this reason, beginning with the creation of small-vehicles, Daihatsu is actively engaged both in improving fuel efficiency (reducing CO2) while driving and in reducing the amount of air pollutants in exhaust gases.
  • 57. PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AT THE DEVELOPMENT STAGE FOR NEW MODELS Daihatsu introduced Eco-Vehicle Assessment System in 2006; in its development activities, the company specifies environmental goals in six different fields which are Fuel Efficiency, Exhaust Gases, Noise, Recyclability, Environmentally Hazardous Substances, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) values. Through its LCAs, Daihatsu evaluates and seeks to reduce both energy use & CO2 and other emissions that impact on the environment in every stage of its vehicle lifecycles, from materials production, to vehicle production, driving, and disposal of end-of- life vehicles.
  • 58. INITIATIVES FOR LOW- CONCENTRATION EXHAUST GASES Most automobiles are fueled by gasoline; for this reason, they emit a range of environmentally loads substances that cause air pollution, including carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides. Japan introduced its first exhaust gas regulations in 1966, and they have become increasingly rigorous ever since; today, Japan boasts the world’s most stringent exhaust gas regulations, and this has resulted in a steady reduction of nitrogen oxides and other air pollutants. Daihatsu is engaged for clean emission by setting itself target values that are more rigorous than either domestic emission regulations and those set the exhaust gas regulations adopted by Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc., to which it is affiliated. Japan is transitioning from the use of the Japan-specific JC08 standard to measure exhaust emissions and fuel efficiency to the use of the global (Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure) WLTP standard. Daihatsu is actively working to ensure its vehicles return outstanding results under the WLTP standards.

PROMOTING SSC AT ITS PRODUCTION LINES In order to realize the affordable manufacturing technologies, it has developed through its K-cars [mini vehicles], Daihatsu has carried out production line optimizations based on the SSC (Simple, Slim, Compact) concept. It has led to a significant reductions in energy consumption.
  • 64. SIMPLIFYING BODY-CARRYING DEVICES IN THE WELDING PROCESS Daihatsu has significantly reduced the energy required to drive the pallets used to carry and fix the positions of bodies in the welding process by simplifying and lightening them.
  • 65. INTRODUCTION OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES As well as saving energy through eliminating waste during the production process, Daihatsu will also actively seek to expand its introducing renewable energies.
  • 66. OFFICE-BASED INITIATIVES In addition to its production plants, Daihatsu’s Head Office and technology division are also implementing energy-saving measures. We take care to carry out everyday energy-saving measures such as appropriately setting air conditioning temperatures and switching off unused lighting; we have also transitioned from the use of fluorescent to LED lighting, introduced sensor-based on/off lighting controls, and are engaged in solar power generation initiatives as well.
  • 67. LOGISTICS INITIATIVES Daihatsu uses various modes of transport for transporting completed vehicles and supplying and procuring materials and parts. These include ships, railroads, trucks, and airplanes. We works to reduce the amount of CO2 it emits during the logistics process, by increasing the volume of freight it can transport at once—such as by improving vehicle loading capacities and freight densities—and by shifting to modes of transport with lower CO2 emissions.
  • 68. SHIFT TO MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MODES OF TRANSPORT Shipping transport We transports by ship approximately 70% of all its freight volumes related to the procurement and supply of complete vehicles, materials, and parts. Since it enables large volumes of vehicles to be transported at one time, marine transport is an efficient and environmentally friendly mode of transport that contributes to reductions in CO2 emissions. Going forward, Daihatsu intends to consider how to expand the scope of its shipping transport to include smaller ports.
  • 69. SHIFT TO MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MODES OF TRANSPORT Railroad transport Daihatsu’s core product is the mini vehicle, which measures 3.4 meters in length; it is therefore small enough to fit into a 12-foot (3.6 meter) railroad container. Taking advantage of the small vehicles, in 1996 the company began transporting these products between Kyoto Freight Station (Umekoji) and Niigata Freight Terminal Station.
  • 70. SHIFT TO MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MODES OF TRANSPORT Railroad transport Daihatsu stopped using special-purpose container pallets in 2018, and thereafter steadily began to expand its use of railroad transport: from Kitakyushu Freight Terminal Station to Toyama Freight Station in February 2018; from Kitakyushu Freight Terminal Station to Minami-matsumoto Freight Station in January 2019; and from Fukuoka Freight Terminal Station to Niigata Freight Terminal Station in December 2019.
  • 71. SHIFT TO MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MODES OF TRANSPORT Truck transportation Knock Down parts transportation Regarding knock down parts sent from Japan to its overseas bases, Daihatsu is working to reduce CO2 emissions by improving freight density, reviewing its container transport operations, and optimizing its logistics activities.
  • 72. SHIFT TO MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MODES OF TRANSPORT Truck transportation Transportation of complete vehicles In 2019, Japanese land transport regulations were relaxed, with the maximum permitted vehicle length extended to 18 meters or less, including an overhang of 1 meter or less; where previously only six mini vehicles could be transported at once, under the new regulations eight mini vehicles can be transported at once, leading to more efficient transportation and a corresponding reduction in logistics-related CO2 emissions.
