My piece contains a good range of
camera movements considering the
other professional pieces are over 2
minutes in length.
3.
All my shots last an average of 4 seconds with
some being shorter due to editing.
A variation of fast and slow shots are used in The
Conjuring; faster shots when reaching a climactic
point, slower shots to build tension.
Mostly slower shots with an average timing of 6
seconds are used in Insidious: Chapter 2 this is
because there is no climactic points in this
opening.
4. The professional
piece have used
more locations than
I have, due to
bigger budgets and
full sets designed for
the film. Also the
other film openings
last longer than 2
minutes meaning
they can fit in more
narrative taking
them into different
areas.

5.
I have kept my costuming naturalistic and within
the modern time period. All props I used fit with the
genre and with the narrative including: boxes,
mirror and TV.
In The Conjuring the costumes fit with the timer
period of the 1970’s, the props also reflect the time
period and the genre e.g. doll, photographs,
broken lamp.
The costuming in Insidious: Chapter 2 reflects the
time period that the opening is set in and set the
scene for the audience, the props also do this and
they reflect generic norms including: photographs,
car, head phones.

I have included generic conventions in the narrative, type of
antagonist and in the props used. These include a couple
moving into a house which is haunted/ possessed and lights
flickering and things moving on their own accord.
In The Conjuring this narrative is also used later on in the plot
but another narrative is used in the opening including a
generic prop –the doll. Other generic props are used and the
antagonist scares the characters in generic ways e.g. leaving
notes, smashing photos and appearing suddenly.
Since Insidious: Chapter 2 is a sequel its opening narrative
relates to events that have been mentioned in the previous
film, they still include a generic narrative of a person being
linked to a ghost/ demon. Generic props are also seen here
showing the signs of the supernatural presence.

I have created a soundtrack which includes high pitched
discordant violins and synthetic sounds. I have included
sound effects over the static and the institutional titles.
In The Conjuring the sound track is very prominent over the
institutional titles and decreases so the dialogue can be
heard, sound effects are used over the flickering lights and
when the crayon rolls across the floor. The soundtrack
includes lower pitched discordant violins and piano.
The Insidious: Chapter 2 soundtrack includes high pitched
violins in the background and a crescendo over the film title
which is reminiscent of Hammer Horror films. Sound effects are
used on the metronome and the walkie-talkie.
10. My narrative leads straight into the film and is set at the
same time as the rest of the plot, it introduces the two
main characters and the antagonist without giving
away what will happen.
The narrative set out in The Conjuring’s opening is set
before the main plot and introduces only two if the
characters seen in the film. I gives away nothing of the
plot just the type of antagonist that the characters may
face.
In Insidious: Chapter 2 the narrative of the opening is set
before the film and before the previous film and shows
some of the plot from the previous film. All the
characters seen appear later in the film but as their
older selves played by different actors. None of the plot
is given away but the antagonist is introduced.
