In these films a key them is violence. Mostly these films
revolve around this theme. Sometimes films seem to
glorify the violence taking place however sometimes its
is to send a negative message to the audience.
Normally at the end of this film genre there is an end
fight or battle where some of the conflict is resolved.
Physical force is frequently used to hurt a person.
3. sexism
In this genre women are mainly undermined. Men have
the main roles and refer to women as objects some more
than others.
In the film the football factory, one of the main films in
this genre the leaders wife is talked about like an object
and does not have a narrative voice of her own.
4. Alcoholism
In this genre alcohol is glorified and abused. Most
characters drink excessively and when intoxicated most
of the trouble will be caused in this circumstances .
However the way it is portrayed suggests that it is wrong
and morals and put into the film thought.
5. Actors
In these films the actors are mainly British and accents
are normally from central London or up north with a
strong Northern accents. Both of these are associated
with working class which is a key convention in the
genre.
There are a group of actors that mainly play these sort of
roles. Some of the more recognised actors is British actor
Danny Dyer.
6. Locations and lighting
Locations are normally intercity or run down areas. This
adds to the realism theme throughout the film and
makes it seem more realistic
Normally lighting is very dim with dull colours such as
grey being predominant. This along with the actors back
ground suggest a run down atmosphere where violence
and other thing hidden from the public eye take place.
7. Green Street
Green street is an example of this genre where all these
techniques are used. However although all of these
themes are glorified the message in the film is that
hooliganism is bad and negative for society. This
message is heightened when a young character no older
than 30 Is killed because of his actions through out the
film, along with the death of a teen which haunts one set
of hooligans.
