Speaking 101

Oral Examination Skills
Learning Objectives

To appreciate the amount of details in a picture.

To apply a mental framework to guide picture
    discussion
Introduction

As the saying goes, “A picture speaks a
    thousand words.”

This means that a picture is rich with meaning.

Students who are able to locate all important
information in a picture during oral
    examination will attract higher grades.
Some questions to be answered
1)How do you start?
2)How many talking points must you raise?
3)How do you end?
4)How to ensure all grounds are covered?

These questions will be answered during this
    topic.
1 Step of BFFT Framework
       st


Start by describing the Background Event
    using 5W1H.
1) What is the theme?
2) Where was it held?
3) When was it held?
4) Who held it?
5) Why was it held?
6) How did it go?
2 Step of BFFT Framework
       nd


Next, discuss about the picture's focus.

Focus on the actions, feelings and thoughts.

    Performers...
1) Dropped trumpet, made it look like part of show
2) Excited , Nervous, quick thinking, anxious
father pointing, mother is speechless, boy is
  pointing in surprise.
3 Step of BFFT Framework
       rd


    Conclude by discussing what happened
thereafter and the lesson you have learnt.

    The performers ...
1) Won, happy, months of hard work paid off.
2) I learnt that hard work and determination
  equals to success!

To sum up, the framework BFFT sounds like
    BEEF. Make your discussion beefy!

Try the Learning Activities that are coming up.
LA Suggested Ans - BFFT in action

Visit library day. The students, teachers, during
recess, to build good reading habits, there are
different sections, fiction and non-fiction such
as maths, science and english. some students
are noisy and running about while others are
    reading quietly.

New students coming in look excited, noisy
students scolded by a librarian, they were not
    considerate of other library users.

The recess is over, students returned with a
book each back to class. This teaches me the
    importance of reading regularly.
Discussion

What's the most important principle in Picture
    Discussion?

Why is a framework needed during discussion?

What does the framework in this topic sound
    like? Why?
In Summary

No Key details must be overlooked.
       key details must be overlooked

It helps us to remember what to say.

Beef. It is to make our discussion beefy.
