What is conflict? (Wilmot and Hocker, 2007) 1. An expressed struggle 2. Between at least two independent people 3. Who have identified incompatible goals and interference from others

Conflict Management Strategies 1. Separate people from problem 2. Focus on shared interests 3. Generate many options to solve problems
Reaching Consensus Consensus should  not  come too quickly Some  personal preferences will be surrendered Emphasize areas of agreement Consensus usually yields long-term agreement Postpone decision  if consensus can not be reached
Reaching Consensus Keep group oriented towards goal Be sensitive to ideas and feelings of others  Promote honest dialogue
