THE PAST CONTINUOUS Unit 3
THE PAST CONTINUOUS How do we create it? We need Past simple of TO BE (was/were) + Base form of the verb + ING I  was watching  TV. You  were cooking  lunch. They  were doing  their homework.
SOME EXAMPLES ,[object Object]
You  were watching  a film.
He  was writing  a letter.
We  were preparing  the class.
They  were listening  to music.
I  was watching  TV when you  called  me.

  • 7. They were listening to music.
  • 8. I was watching TV when you called me.
  • 9. She was crossing the street when she found the cat.
  • 10.
  • 11. They were not listening to the radio.
  • 12. Sarah was not playing football.
  • 13. I wasn't speaking to her!
  • 14.
  • 15. Where were you running ?
  • 16. What was Johnny doing yesterday?
  • 17. Were you looking at the screen?
  • 18. Was she listening to you?
  • 19.
  • 20. Actions that were taking place in the past when another thing happened.
  • 21. “ I was watching TV when you called me.”
  • 22. See that the short action “ called ” takes place during the long action “ was watching ”, as if it 'interrupts' it.

  • 25. Some people were running , so I stopped the car.
  • 26. We were playing football when a lightning hit us.
  • 27. Sarah was taking a shower when the bell rang .
  • 28. Jimmy was watching a film when his sister arrived .
