•  Networking – total of 92 environmental NGOs networked in SER &
   MNE - “Network is the most significant change that happened to me in
   last 730 days (during this project)! Working with others on different
   project activities made me understand the importance of being
   networked and made me become motivated to do the things for
   network functioning”.
•  Capacity building on networking, policy, advocacy and
   communication & sharing experience from/in the region (CRO, BiH,
   AL) & EU (P2P)
•  Raised awareness of importance of innovative EU Env. Policies: 15
   local actions, 6 newsletters and Natura2000 blog with more then 200
   posts, read by 5.000 people in 35 countries – STILL ALIVE!!

     plans; Strengthening actions in local communities; Sustaining cooperation

•    Development of joint project(s) on transboundary and regional level to
     safeguard biodiversity and secure development of the region – i.e.

•    3 priorities from 3 Green Agenda strategies implemented
•    Network of watchdog CSOs monitoring the implementation of
     the Green Agenda established in the implementing
     municipalities.
•    Wider Western Balkans watchdog CSO network initiated
•    Participating municipalities are more transparent in activities
     impacting local environment.
•    LGs take into account environmental principles in local

Tools developed	
     1.  Monument of Nature Vrelo Bosne - the model for calculation of compensation fee for
         landowners in nucleus of Monument of Nature Vrelo Bosne.
     2.  Upper Course of River Dretulja - extraction of aider tree and other woody hydrophilic
         species and their use as biomass for public heating system.
     3.  Mountain Ljubišnja – set of tools focused on organization of local communities, local
         product offer and sales organization, branding of local products, waste management,
         tourism development, infrastructure development, and individual projects.

IN THE ADRIATIC REGION

Training program for lawyers, judges and
journalists - 26 trained legal and media
professionals from the Region, increased
awareness and further promotion of Aarhus
Convention standards in the Adriatic Region.

Seminars proceedings - a manual for practitioners
and students, 150-page handbook gathering
theoretical introduction, elaboration of legal
institutes connected with the AC, a thorough
overview of legislation and practice in the Region,
and best practice examples from EU countries - the
very first of this kind in the Region

Manual for media - contributes to an overall better
understanding of the AC of media representatives
Final international Conference - more than 100
participants from 12 countries, patronage of the
President of the Republic of Croatia, of the Ministry of
Environmental Protection, Physical Planning and
Construction and the Ministry of Justice

foster implementation of the Aarhus Convention in Croatia. Goals of the project are to build
capacities of environmental CSO for the monitoring and implementation of the Aarhus
Convention with the emphasis on access to justice, and to enhance cooperation between local
and central governments, ECSOs and academic institutions in the implementation of the
Aarhus Convention

•  KAPAZ - Network for banning and phasing out
   asbestos in WBC establise
•  http://www.noforasbestos.net
•  For the first time web portal and online software
   tools (expert system) for managing asbestos in
   premises are published on some West Balkan
   languages (Macedonian, Serbian, and Bosnian).
•  For the first time in the participating West Balkan
   Countries public available educational materials
   were published (four illustrated educational
   brochures and a training guide based on EU best
   practices on local languages).
Outputs and results (2)
•  For the first time it is prepared Study about
   Current Situation with Asbestos in West Balkan
   Countries which analyses current legal situation
   with asbestos in West Balkan Countries and reveals
   necessary steps toward harmonization of national
   with EU legislative.
•  For the first time in participating West Balkan
   Countries action plans for dealing with asbestos
   issue on European way are prepared and
   forwarded to national authorities for further
   processing and implementation.

•  Further development of KAPAZ Network.
•  Futher lobying and pressure on authorities for
   asbestos ban in WBC.
•  Implementation of developed Action Plans.
•  Monitoring implementation.
•  Development of legal systems for compensation of
   asbestos victims.

  • 3. Project 226605: PARTNERSHIP ACTIONS FOR BIODIVERSITY PROTECTION IN WESTERN BALKAN
  • 4. Outputs and results •  Networking – total of 92 environmental NGOs networked in SER & MNE - “Network is the most significant change that happened to me in last 730 days (during this project)! Working with others on different project activities made me understand the importance of being networked and made me become motivated to do the things for network functioning”. •  Capacity building on networking, policy, advocacy and communication & sharing experience from/in the region (CRO, BiH, AL) & EU (P2P) •  Raised awareness of importance of innovative EU Env. Policies: 15 local actions, 6 newsletters and Natura2000 blog with more then 200 posts, read by 5.000 people in 35 countries – STILL ALIVE!! http://ngonatura2000.blogspot.com/

Outputs and results (1) Tools developed 1.  Monument of Nature Vrelo Bosne - the model for calculation of compensation fee for landowners in nucleus of Monument of Nature Vrelo Bosne. 2.  Upper Course of River Dretulja - extraction of aider tree and other woody hydrophilic species and their use as biomass for public heating system. 3.  Mountain Ljubišnja – set of tools focused on organization of local communities, local product offer and sales organization, branding of local products, waste management, tourism development, infrastructure development, and individual projects.

  • 28. Project 227368: ENFORCEMENT OF THE AARHUS CONVENTION IN THE ADRIATIC REGION COUNTRIES

Outputs and results Training program for lawyers, judges and journalists - 26 trained legal and media professionals from the Region, increased awareness and further promotion of Aarhus Convention standards in the Adriatic Region. Seminars proceedings - a manual for practitioners and students, 150-page handbook gathering theoretical introduction, elaboration of legal institutes connected with the AC, a thorough overview of legislation and practice in the Region, and best practice examples from EU countries - the very first of this kind in the Region Manual for media - contributes to an overall better understanding of the AC of media representatives

Follow-up project submitted by Green Istria in October 2011 - CIVIL DIALOGUE FOR A BETTER ENVIRONMENT - Enabling environmental civil society organisations to monitor and foster implementation of the Aarhus Convention in Croatia. Outputs and results (1) •  KAPAZ - Network for banning and phasing out asbestos in WBC establise •  http://www.noforasbestos.net •  For the first time web portal and online software tools (expert system) for managing asbestos in premises are published on some West Balkan languages (Macedonian, Serbian, and Bosnian). •  For the first time in the participating West Balkan Countries public available educational materials were published (four illustrated educational brochures and a training guide based on EU best practices on local languages).

Outputs and results (2) •  For the first time it is prepared Study about Current Situation with Asbestos in West Balkan Countries which analyses current legal situation with asbestos in West Balkan Countries and reveals necessary steps toward harmonization of national with EU legislative. •  For the first time in participating West Balkan Countries action plans for dealing with asbestos issue on European way are prepared and forwarded to national authorities for further processing and implementation.
  • 41. What’s next ? •  Further development of KAPAZ Network. •  Futher lobying and pressure on authorities for asbestos ban in WBC. •  Implementation of developed Action Plans. •  Monitoring implementation. •  Development of legal systems for compensation of asbestos victims.
