Samsung is now following their dual screen digital cameras not with more dual
screen goodness but by adding WiFi, bluetooth, and GPS. These new cameras are
the ST5500 and its less feature packed brother ST5000.
The ST5500 and ST5000 are basically identical devices with the former having
more connectivity and a slightly bigger screen. Both cameras have WiFi which
you can use to upload videos and pictures without using a computer. You can
immediately upload to Facebook your recent night out or to YouTube various fail
videos that your friends did. This could be handy if traveling since you might not
bring your laptop with you but you sure have your digital camera. Through this,
you can upload your pictures on a daily basis and let your friends follow your
journey. Bluetooth transfers would be used for wireless photo transfers to your
computer when you’re too lazy to get the data cable. The GPS function is for
geo-tagging and various applications with map support.
2. Both digital cameras have capacitive touch displays where the menu and
functions can be accessed. Needless to say, they are all very large and wide
enough for your thumb. The ST5500 has a 3.7″ screen and the ST5000 has 3.5″.
Videos can be recorded at 720p with optical and digital stabilization. Digital stills
are maxed out at 14.2 megapixels with 7x optical zoom.
Samsung used hydroforming technique in creating the bodies of the camera. This
allowed the creation of slim yet sturdy construction which is the same technique
used in automotive parts.
