Eprocura is a research project which aims to build a semantic search engine for training courses, which allows users to personalize their searches. This was presented at EMMA conference 2011. http://enma.org.es/index.html
Eprocura project. Semantic search engine for training courses
1. e-Procura Mediation System based on semantic technologies to make personalized searches for courses E-Procura: Searching for courses (the easy way)
2.
3. Why this project? e-Procura Students must access each training institution web page and do the search manually (where this information can be scattered in several subsections), and most times it ends in little useful information being retrieved... What happens if we want to look for a training course online? e-Procura project allows to simplify this process and give access to the course information from the three galician universities (more to come!) by accessing just one interface .
4. e-Procura The main purpose of the project is to develop a tool that allows easy & personalized access to course information for potential students in a centralized repository that is automatically synchronized with the information from each institution website. For training institutions
6. User Access e-Procura - Unregistered users: The search engine will allow all users to filter results by term and university or other parameters: cost, distance, schedule... - Registered users: They get personalized results fully adapted to their profile. In this case, their profile in eProcura Search engine will save their preferences like (maximum cost, knowledge areas of interest, free schedule, etc... And apply them in all their searches, even offering suggestions.
8. e-Procura Data management Course info can be updated in two ways: Automatic way: courses will be obtained automatically from the universities databases once a day, so info is updated. Manually: There is also an interface on the application to insert courses information Eprocura is designed to integrate data from multiple sources, To do this we need to know the way of how each university store their courses and the method they use to publish them.
10. e-Procura Advantages For the universities - Creation of a centralized repository in which they can publish their training offer at national & international Levels (multilingual interface) - Integration of their training offer into European Level repositories by counting with standard descriptions.(ARIADNE, EducaNext, LRE...) - Support the adjustment between the universities training offer and the actual market demands.
11. Advantages e-Procura - Access to public information about courses that can be reused by universities applications or even other institutions and/or search engines that want to do searches about this information. - Link to these universities courses information with additional public information present on the web (i.e. teaching place location on Google Maps, or access to information on Wikipedia) For the universities (II)
12. Advantages e-Procura For students - Obtaining personalized learning paths based on a learning objective specified on a set of competences the student desires to obtain or a precise training to access a certain professional profile. - Better control of his/her learning path.
