1. We talk to Dakota and Rose and how they feel they are fitting into the true rock and roll lifestyle, we
ask them some up close and personal questions and get an exclusive insight into their plans for the
rest of the year.
What inspired you to become a singer?
DAKOTA: I was inspired to become singer after I watched my
Dad playing the base in a previous band, he loved playing and has always encouraged me to find my
feet in the music industry.
I have always looked up to my dad, he’s my role model, me and
him are very close and if I ever have a problems or any issue he
is the person I would always go to first
ROSE: I unlike Dakota didn’t have the same amount of moral support from
my parents as my father died when I was young I never really had that male
role model as I was growing up even though my mother did eventually re-marry
I never really thought that my dad’s shoes could be filled in the same way. our
family was more of a get out do it and get the job done, but I always had this
burning ambition and desire to get into the music industry, I remember when I was
little, I would always be singing into my hair brush in front of the mirror in my mums
room practising my dance moves and then when I was
a little bit older, one year for Christmas I remember
getting a karaoke machine, and I would always
drive my parents mad and be constantly singing
my little socks off...
How did you get into the music
industry?
DAKOTA: well I was very lucky as my dad’s
band was particularly successful, so as a
result of that, he had a few contacts and dad
was able to get a music scout to come and
watch one of my smaller performances he was
sold and I was the passed onto ‘Big Bob’ our
music producer and then he put me and Rose
together and thank God he did.
ROSE: yer, or else we just wouldn’t have this
bond that we have now it’s like were sisters separated at birth. I was
scouted as well at a talent contest, I was never really overly
confident but when I won this talent contest I was so shocked, and then
to go on, and to be scouted and handed onto ‘Big Bob’ it was just a dream come
true.
What was your first song
about?
DAKOTA: well you’ve got to start
somewhere and we chose something that was particularly important to
the both of us it think was special to me as my dad helped a lot with the
producing of the single which was helpful and he would always give
2. his honest opinion about things and although at the time it did
create a bit of friction it helped a lot in the end and I think we
realise that now (looking reluctantly at Rose)
ROSE: don’t give me that look alright I’ll admit that Jeff (Dakota’s dad) did grate on
me at the start quite a bit but now were best of buds,
we get on like a house on fire and I'm like his newly
adopted daughter, but that’s only because now
I totally understand what he has done for us as a band and his influence
on the single is so unique that it just adds
an exquisite take on the music and I will
forever be in his debt for what he’s done
for us. And where would we be without Big Bob
What instruments do you play?
DAKOTA: well I play a few instruments I love playing
the guitar, I always have since I was little but electric
has to hands down be my favourite, and I just love
writing my songs in my spare time and it’s just an
amazing thing to do, I also play the piano as I have a
surprising love of classical music I just find it so soothing
and it helps me to de-stress big time, which helps with
our kind of lifestyle. I guess you could say that my voice
is my best instrument though, it the thing I’ve used for
the longest, so I’ve had the most practise to attempt to
perfect it.
ROSE: I play the drums, obviously there my life I dunno
what I’d do without my drum kit, I’d be lost without it, I
also enjoy playing base, just to have a bit of a break from
the drums, and believe it or not I play the flute, that’s
something I took up at primary school, me mums
idea, which now I'm kind of grateful for and I
know it’s a bit of a weird combination but yer
I play the flute in my spare time so its not
really a major thing but I still enjoy it.
Do you ever get stage fright?
DAKOTA: my first major performance in
the band was unfortunately without my
dad, he couldn’t make it due to a serious
illness that seriously effects his mobility,
that he’s been recently going through,
but luckily he’s recently had a break
through and is finally on the road to
recovery. But it was our first ever gig as
EPILETIC DAYDREAM and I just needed
that re-assurance, but luckily I still got
3. a phone call from my dad giving me the
moral support I needed before I went
out on stage and OMG it made such a
difference I was able to metaphorically
‘rock on’ then and all my worries
slipped away.
ROSE: the worst ever case of stage fright I’ve had in my
performing career was the day of the talent contest, I
knew that the talent scout was going to be at the
competition which just seemed to make my nerves worse,
I was on edge that day and I was especially worried about
my voice, as I had been suffering from tonsillitis the week
before, at one point I actually thought that I might have to
drop out of the competition, but after some serious R&R
of my voice I was okay for the day, but it seriously cant
of been as bad as I remember or else I wouldn’t be here
now.
What do your friends think about your
music career?
DAKOTA: all my friends are very supportive of my career
choices and there is always someone amongst the crowds
that I knew from school or my area that have come to
cheer us on, it means a lot to me as I think I thrive
most of the moral support and atmosphere of the
crowd.
ROSE: Yer my friends are very similar as
I was really quiet at school I just had a
very ‘close knitt’ of friends and we still
keep in touch as much as possible and
its really good that they get on with
Dakota which just makes my life a
whole lot easier, but its always nice to
catch up with them and try and fit
back into normality, (laughing) which
is a weird thing to say now because
never in my wildest dream would I
of imagined a lifestyle like this.
What can we expect to
see in the future for the
band?
ROSE: right,I'm answering
this one because old blabber-
mouth over there has
4. promised not to spill our
‘TOP’ secrets/ future
plans,but put it this way
I looks very promising
and extremely busy
