Bhd.<br />Contest Entries<br />Essays must not be longer than 2,500 words and can be written in English or Bahasa Melayu excluding footnotes and bibliography.<br />The last day of submissions will be accepted until 21/03/2011 Monday by 5.30pm in the form of softcopy and printed material.(hardcopy)<br />Each participant may submit more than one entry, but each winning Participant will be entitled to only one (1) prize. The prize will be awarded to a winning Participant for the Participant’s highest-scoring Contest Entry.<br />All submissions must be send to Mr. Johan Abdullah (Lecturer of Security Management) by the stipulated time. Late submission will be not entertained.<br />Essays are to be prepared in the .doc format font Arial 12 and 1.5 single spacing.<br />Please put your name, IC number and DSM group on the top of your front page of the essay paper.<br />Quotes and references must be clearly and correctly stated in the paper.<br />All submissions must be original. No previously published material will be accepted. Any form of plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification. Please note that all essays will be screened with specialized software to verify plagiarism.<br />Judges<br />Judges reserve the sole discretion to disqualify any Participant that we determine is directly or indirectly tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest and/or to be acting in breach or potential breach of these Contest Terms and Conditions.<br />Judges’ decision is final and is not subject to an appeal.<br />Liability<br />DSM Committees will not be responsible or liable for:<br />Any problem, loss or damage of whatsoever nature suffered by any party due to any delay and/or failure in receiving and submitting the Contest Entry as a result of any postal error or any other error. In the event of such error, delay, damage and/or failure, DSM Committees shall not be responsible or liable to any Participant for failure to participate in the Contest at any time.<br />Any changes made by PLF or organizers or sponsors (if any) of the Contest.<br />Publicity<br />DSM Committees reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to use the names, information and photographs of the Participants without obtaining any consent from the Participant or providing any payment whatsoever to the Participant for any commercial or non commercial endeavours, publicity, advertising, trade or promotion purposes in any format or media now known or hereafter devised throughout the world in perpetuity.<br />Disclaimer<br />DSM Committees shall not be responsible or liable for any costs, problems, damage or loss of whatsoever nature to the Participants resulting from their participation in the Contest.<br />The Evaluation Process<br />Each essay submitted will be evaluated by at least two independent judges using the criteria below. Essays shortlisted for the final phase will then be read by judges on the Grand Panel.The judges’ decision is final. Participants will be notified of their essay’s status by 09th April 2011 for 1st Prize, 2nd Prize and 3rd Prize Winner.<br />Quality of research (1/3 total score) The quality of research will demonstrate knowledge and depth of understanding about the issues addressed. The following points will be considered:<br />Adequately researched facts and well-supported points of view<br />Proper citations of ideas and information from external sources<br />Quality of analysis (1/3 total score) You should develop your own perspective on the issues and this should be reflected in your arguments, which should be clear, concise and supportive of your point of view. The following points will be considered:<br />Thoughtful analysis of the subject matter<br />An examination of the issues from a unique perspective<br />The use of critical thinking to support analyses<br />Style and Creativity (1/3 total score) Inclusion of charts, graphs, news clippings as well as the quality of your writing will also impact on your score. The following points will be considered:<br />Creative presentation of ideas (eg: inclusion of relevant charts, graphs, news clippings that strongly support the main arguments)<br />Free of errors in syntax, grammar, spelling, and punctuation<br />A confident and coherent expression of ideas<br />
