Next Generation New Radio Access Technology SI
• Objective
– The new RAT will consider all frequency ranges up to 100 GHz
– Target a single technical framework addressing all usage scenarios of TR38.913, including
• Enhanced mobile broadband
• Massive machine-type-communications
• Ultra reliable and low latency communications
– Initial work of SI should allocate high priority on the following areas to enable development of technical
solutions
• Fundamental physical layer signal structure for new RAT
– Waveform based on OFDM, with potential support of non-orthogonal waveform and multiple access
– Basic frame structure(s)
– Channel coding scheme(s)
• Radio interface protocol architecture and procedures
• Radio Access Network architecture, interface protocols and procedures
– Based on the initial study, RAN WG will focus on technical solutions for Phase I at later stage of Rel. 14
