Afghanistan has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world and a huge number of orphans. In response to these alarming statistics, the Bayat Foundation partnered with the Ayenda Foundation in 2008 to build the Ayenda Learning Center in Bamiyan Province. The project was a major milestone in the Ayenda Foundation's mission to rebuild Afghanistan by educating the nation's most vulnerable children and its future leaders.

3. Since opening its doors over six years ago,
the Ayenda Learning Center in Bamiyan
continues to thrive. At a major ceremony
attended by regional and international
dignitaries in June 2011, the center opened
a computer lab. Equipped with a satellite
Internet connection and new Dell
computers, the lab afforded the center's
students their first communication with the
world beyond their own community.
4. Today, the computer lab has a pivotal
role in educating girls at the Ayenda
Center, which recently hired a new
English and computer teacher with
special qualifications to enhance the
school's curriculum. The hands-on
technical exposure received by the
center's students will vastly broaden their
opportunities for education,
employment, and leadership.
