1. Introduction Statement
A drought is a period of abnormally dry weather that persists long
enough to produce a serious hydrologic imbalance. Droughts have
wide-ranging adverse economic, environmental, and social impacts as
rivers, reservoirs, groundwater levels, and soil moisture all drop.

2. SAVING TEXAS
PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING
SENAREO:
The drought in Texas has reached epic destructions. A drought is a period of
abnormally dry weather that persists long enough to produce a serious hydrologic
imbalance. The largest decrease in cow numbers occurred in Texas, which is the top
beef cow state, because it suffered several years of drought. In 2013 Texas lost 105,000
beef cows. That, along with a total lose of 1,010,000 cows in the previous two years,
means beef cow numbers in Texas fell by more than 1 million head. Beef cow numbers
went from 5.03 million in 2011 down to 3.91 million in 2014.

There may not be a complete solution but doing nothing doesn’t work
either. What are some of the newest thoughts and actions being taken to
help drought ridden areas. What is the best possible solution for Texas? Is
there a different industry that Texas can turn to help their economy?
What is a viable solution for Texas
3. Grouping – groups of 4 members per team
21st Century Theme – Global awareness, critical thinking and
problem solving skill, communication and collaboration skills,
information and communications technology literacy

Standards and Grouping
4. Student Activities and Assessment
Activities – research options (examples: prevent soil erosion,
expand a different industry within the state.
Required outcome – Group presentation, to include YouTube
videos, contribution from each group into class wiki and
letter written from the class to the governor of Texas written
during Language Arts.
