Definition and benefits
A barcode is a machine-readable representation of information interpreted by the scanner.
A barcode help in:
1. A simple way and fast to acquire item information to identify it for example in conservation
the accession number
2. A simple way and fast to collect general information of the item for example in germplasm
distribution the order number, doi and accession number
3. Track the item for example with the inventory number
Therefore use barcodes in Genebanks is a good data management practice to gain efficiencies

New GRIN-Global Tools
GRIN-Global Wizards and Mobile App
To facilitate daily work of genebank staff like technicians, supervisors, curators and
administrators was developed new software tools for the GRIN-Global platform.
Two types of GRIN-Global tools were developed:
1. Five Wizards for Curator Tool to handle data more smoothly
- Search Wizard
- Update Wizard
- Trait Wizard
- Print Wizard
- List Comparison Wizard
2. One mobile app for Android and Windows for data collection about inventories
The tools are Open Source and under Apache license 2.0
