1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
By Shannon Edgington
2. FORMS AND CONVENTIONS USED SIMILAR TO
REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS
Use of real footage
Natural environments
Diegetic and Non- Diegetic sound
Title scene
Anchorage Text
3. WHY AND HOW I USED THESE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS
Using all real footage within the documentary shows how I have developed and challenged
real media products as they show real life and this gives us a sense of realism. Using the
anchorage text and titles at the end with the ‘coming up’ part gives us a sense of mystery and
really can pull the audience in this is creating enigma theory from Barthes.
Using Diegetic sound shows a sense of realism and develops into the audience believing it is a
real documentary. Using the voiceover and non diegetic sound which can create drama and a
atmosphere.
Using natural environments for the dancers to dance in creates a sense of realism also as you
believe they are normal people trying to make it in the world of dance.
Overall I believe that our documentary has challenged and developed forms of real media
products as they use the shots and type of editing that company's would use to create a fly on
the wall documentary like ours is.
