[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],THE HERE Project The HERE Project is conducting research into student retention funded by HEFCE & the Paul Hamlyn Fund. It is a collaborative project operated by Nottingham Trent University, Bournemouth University and the University of Bradford, running from 2008 – 2011. The HERE! Project will focus on two key aspects of student retention: Student doubters & Programmes with better than peer rates of retention. Student Doubters Why do some students have doubts about their experiences and yet stay, when others withdraw? Doubts about the course, accommodation and institution appear common amongst students, particularly in the first year. We will seek to understand what factors keep students on their courses. Nottingham Trent University [email_address] & [email_address] Bournemouth University [email_address] (Chris Keenan) University of Bradford [email_address] (Becka Currant) Initial Doubters’ Research Conducted with first year students March 2009 (n=460) 25% of respondents indicated that they had considered leaving university at some point during the first year “ The people I live with and the friends I have made are so lovely … I worried I'd never see them again.” Student doubter explaining what has helped them stay at University (March 2009)
