- Great way to share what we are doing and enhance explanations is to use short video clips – screen capture with commentary via community clips is useful
- Learning is relational Seymour Papert described how learning COULD be revolutionised 20 years ago in The Children’s Machine – he talked about how we need a mega change in education system so children can learn in a way that empowers them rather than stifling them; Fullan in his 2011 paper “choosing the wrong drivers for whole system reform” talks about how it’s intrinsic motivation, engagement in improvement, collective/team work that are LEAD drivers for change NOT accountability/individuality/tech/fragmented strategiesWhat we’ve been using in my class isn’t just collaboration within the class – but with classes from all over the world. We started from intrinsic motivation, engaging all of us (me and the children) in improving what we were doing in collaboration with others…. It was using the tech that made the collaborations possible

- Whatever tools you choose to use – it’s important to make sure it fits with what you want your learners to achieve… not tech for tech’s sake, tech for the sake of learning; not just to replicate what is done in class but to enhance, extend, transform
- Cues in intonation, expression, hand and facial gesturesetc;But our youngsters are growing up with online communication as a norm! we need to be able to speak the same language; need to harness the potential; need to TEACH skills of communication online when we are missing these cues
- Seth Godin – Linchpin – it’s the human aspects, not being an automaton that make a difference to what we do…These children have a different way of learning to the way I did when I was at school – or even when I first started teaching! Time, place make no difference to them – they get on their phone even when we are out and about as a family to find things out or to communicate with their friends! Alastair is using digital learning dialogue all the time when he uses his games console online to play games with his friends – headset on, communication, relationship building, common ground, negotiations and navigations
