IF I COULD VISIT ANOTHER
WORLD, I WOULD GO TO…
CONDITIONAL SENTENCES1
Hello and welcome to a fantastic
trip around my magical world, the
world of conditional sentences. I
will answer your questions if
you’ve got any doubts. All on
board!!!
2
Type 1: If you live in a beautiful place, you will be happy.
Type 2: If you lived in a beautiful place, you would be
happy.
Type 3: If you had lived in a beautifu place you would have been
happy.
There are three basic
conditional types:
3
Can you see the difference
among those sentences?
Exactly! The main difference is the
use of the verb tenses. Why don’t
you try to complete the structure?
Type 1: If+subject+verb in_______,
subject+will+infinitive.
Type 2: If +subject+verb in
past,subject+________+infinitive.
Type 3: If + subject+ verb in
____________, subject+would have+
past participle.
4
I have prepared another activity
for you. You just have to match
expressions from A to expressions
from B. Do you accept the
challenge?
If I could travel to the moon…
If people recycle more…
If I believed in fairies…
If you didn’t write so many
books…
If my father hadn’t read me so
many fantastic stories…
If I could travel to the moon…
If people recycle more…
If I believed in fairies…
If you didn’t write so many
books…
If my father hadn’t read me so
many fantastic stories…
- I would be a superstitious
person.
-I wouldn’t have been so
interested in science fiction.
-I would travel with my best
friend.
-You wouldn’t be a popular
person.
-Pollution won’t be a serious
problem in the future.
- I would be a superstitious
person.
-I wouldn’t have been so
interested in science fiction.
-I would travel with my best
friend.
-You wouldn’t be a popular
person.
-Pollution won’t be a serious
problem in the future.

Now I’m going to ask
you several questions.
Will you be able to
answer properly?
Imagine you could go back in time…
Where would you go?
What would you do?
What places would you visit?
Who would you go with?
What things would you bring back with you?
6
Have a look at the
following sentences…What
is the difference in
meaning?
If I get enough money, I’ll spend my life in a
heavenly island
If I got enough money, I’d spend my life in a
heavenly island.
If I had got enough money, I would have spent my
life in heavenly island
7
You are right again!
The first example expresses
something real. However,
the second one shows just
the opposite, something
unreal. Finally ,the third
example talks about regrets
or something you could
have done in the past, but
you didn’t do.
8
Now, could you complete the
sentences using your own
words?
1. She wouldn’t have failed her exams…
2. The students would have solved the problem…
3. You would save energy…
4. If I were a millionaire…
5. If it doesn’t rain…
6. The soil won’t dry out…
7. The fairy tales will never die…
8. If I go to Leipzig…
9. If she had taken care of the horses…
10.I will visit the aquarium…
9
10
Hey friends, this is the end of
our brief trip to the magical
world of conditionals. But don’t
worry because there ‘s much to
come!
See you soon and remember: if
you need me , I’ll be there to
help you! BACK TO FIRST
