CHALLENGES FACING THE CHURCH TODAY

The Challenge Of Purity “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation
hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for
that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our
Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself a peculiar people zealous of good works”
(Titus 2:11-14).“Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God” (Matt. 5:8).
“Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto
unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart
fervently” (1 Pet. 1:22). “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,
that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is
your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable,
and perfect, will of God” (Rom. 12:1-2).
The Challenge Of Self-Control “For even hereunto were ye called because
Christ also suffered for us leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled,
reviled not again: when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to
him that judgeth righteously” (1 Pet. 2:21-23). “Let no corrupt communication
proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may
minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye
are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger and
clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind
one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God for Christ’s sake
hath forgiven you” (Eph. 4:29-32). “Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide
things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live
peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give
place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Therefore, if thine enemy hunger, feed him: if he thirsts, give him drink: for in so
doing thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head. Be not overcome of evil but
overcome evil with good” (Rom. 12:17-21).
The Challenge Of Faithfulness “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye
steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye
know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:58). “Fear none of those
things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison,
that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto

death, and I will give thee a crown of life” (Rev.
2:10). “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh
the world: and this is the victory that overcometh
the world, even our faith” (1 Jn. 5:4). “Brethren, I
count not myself to have apprehended: but this one
thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind,
and reaching forth unto those things which are
before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the
high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:13-14).
“Therefore, I endure all things for the elect’s sakes,
that they may also obtain the salvation which is in
Christ Jesus with eternal glory” (2 Tim. 2:10).
The Challenge Of Spiritual Growth “But
grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord
and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both
now and for ever. Amen” (2 Pet. 3:18). “But
sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready
always to give an answer to every man that asketh
you a reason of the hope that is in you with
meekness and fear” (1 Pet. 3:15). “Study to shew
thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth
not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of
truth” (2 Tim. 2:15). “For this cause we also, since
the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you,
and to desire that ye might be filled with the
knowledge of his will in all wisdom and
spiritual understanding; That ye might walk
worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful
in every good work, and increasing in the
knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might,
according to his glorious power, unto all patience
and longsuffering with joyfulness” (Col. 1:9-11).

Thank You Note
Thank you seems like it could never be enough
to express how I feel. I have been overwhelmed at
the response of this congregation to my illness. The
prayers, cards, calls, visits, money, food – and the
list just keeps on going. You all have been so
wonderful and that has made my illness so much
more bearable. I love you so much. I’m so blessed
to have a family like you. Please continue to

topic, “If Mama Ain’t Happy.” (Registration is from
8:30-9:00 a.m.)

Pete Barber had fluid drawn off his lungs
Monday at NMMC. Dundee Donald will undergo
surgery at the Women’s Center Thursday. Evelyn
Thompson had her pacemaker replaced Friday at
NMMC. Hannon Ray will undergo surgery on the
bulging discs in his neck soon. Laverne Raper is in
room A12 at the Tupelo Nursing Facility & Rehab
on Briar Ridge Rd. for therapy. Evelyn Willis is at
the Meadows in Fulton in room 116-Hummingbird
Lane. Jill Rice, Debbie Vines’ mother, and Ann
Letteri, Sandra Simmons’ sister, continue hospice
care. Brenda Lindley’s sister, Ruby Clark, is
undergoing treatments for cancer. Homer Smith, an
elder of the congregation in Jacksonville, AL, has
stage 4 cancer.

Gospel Meeting Notes

➢ We will have a potluck meal that Sunday
about 12:15 p.m. in the multipurpose room
for the whole congregation. (75 students
