RE: Project Synopsis - South East Natural Resource Information Portal (SENRIP)
Background
The primary purpose of the project is to assist the development and implementation of the South East Natural
Resource Information Portal (SENRIP). A background paper is attached and further information can be
found at: http://wombat/Resources/SENRIPPortal.aspx
There are two separate projects, establishment of SENRIP itself and development of an online weeds
database that will integrate with elements of SENRIP.
1) SENRIP
The SENRIP project involves establishing a number of web based modules that will be required to be
integrated together into one ‘portal’. The core module you will be involved in is the establishment of internet
accessible SharePoint Services sites and the linking of these sites to a file based authentication system to
control access.
2) Weeds Database
This is the second project, and probably the more challenging. It involves the review and
adaptation/development of a database to suit the activities of Animal and Plant control officers who operate
remotely across the region
It is hoped that this database will be established on a central server and provide remote access on-line (as part
of the SENRIP Portal) with the following primary functions:
• Remote data entry and editing capability
• Data upload from mobile PDA units

2. • Integration with GIS mapping site
• Reporting and analysis tools
• Email alerts and notifications
Technologies to be utilised
It is expected that the following range of software technologies will be utilised for the development of this project:
• MS Windows Small Business Server 2005
• MS Internet Information Server (IIS 6)
• MS Access
• MS SQL Server Express
• Visual Web Developer Express
• MS Sharepoint Services 3.0
• PDA Software (windows mobile 5.0) including ESRI ArcPad for mobile GIS mapping
• Intergraph Geomedia Webmap
Tentative Work Breakdown
The following is a very high level task breakdown. You will be expected to operate in a reasonably
autonomous way and provide input and advice into the technological design process, particularly for the
weeds database project.
Introduction
1. Familiarisation with SERIC computing infrastructure including:

3. • Hardware/software setup
• existing website developments
• existing authentication system
• overview of proposed SENRIP system
SENRIP Project
1. Coordinate Document Management site customisations (to be developed and hosted by 3rd party)
2. Establishment of SharePoint Services internet site(s)
3. Link with existing authentication system for access control
4. Assist with establishment and integration of web based GIS mapping site
5. Document system – user and administrator documentation
Weeds Project
1. Review existing desktop based weed/pest databases
2. Review user requirements/needs analysis with end users
3. Analyse suitability for customising existing database(s) and web enabling
4. develop weeds database with integration to GIS mapping tool
5. Develop tool to upload data from remote PDA devices to central server
6. Document system – user and administrator documentation
